John Smith's first meeting statement concerning Pocahontas was:
"The king's most dear and well beloved daughter, being but a child of twelve or thirteen years of age. Whose compassionate pitiful heart, of my desperate estate, give me much cause to respect her."
Upon her death John Smith also said this:
"Poor little maid. I sorrowed much for her thus early death, and even now can not think of it without grief, for I felt toward her as if she were mine own daughter."
Pocahontas is buried under the chancel of St. George's Church, and on the tablet, in a church at Jamestown VA, erected to her memory is the following inscription:
"Pocahontas Rebecca Rolfe, B. 1595; D.1617, wife of John Rolfe, Gent."

He was a Baptist Preacher, and also served as a County Judge, for Perry County Kentucky, 1821-1838 Enlisted from North Carolina December 1780, applied for pension 1832, Clay County Kentucky. Claim allowed, age 74 years 5 months, when pension granted October 22, 1832. Served with Washington at Valley Forge
Jesse Bowling's application for a pension goes as follows:

On the 22nd day of October 1832 personally appeared in open Court before Joseph Eve, Judge of the Clay Circuit Court
now sitting Jesse Bowling, a resident of the County of Clay and the State of Kentucky, aged seventy four years and five months who being duly sworn according to the law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of an Act of Congress passed June 7, 1832.
That he entered the service of the U.S. in December 1780, in Wilkes County, North Carolina as a volunteer Revolutionary soldier in the office of a Sergeant and served a tour of three months in a Company commanded by Capt. William Hall, which Company was commanded by Major Joseph Phillips and was marched to Salisbury
and there stationed and deployed in guarding British prisoners and Tories from Salisbury toward the Virginia line, the British crossing the Yadkin River and cut loose the boats to prevent the British crossing, at which place he was discharged, having served his full tour of three months as aforestated.
That he again entered the Revolutionary service as a drafted soldier in the spring of the year 1781, and he thinks in the month of March for a Tour of three months.
He resided in Wilkes county, State of North Carolina, and attached to a Company commanded by Captain John Cleveland and was appointed and served as a Sergeant in the company-which company was attached to a battalion commanded by Major Benjamin Henderson and Co. Benjamin Cleveland commanded the Regiment.
That the troops marched from Wilkes County, North Carolina down the Yadkin River to a place called the Trading Ford, and were employed in guarding and reconnoitering the County against the invasion of the British, until he was reqularly discharged.
In the month of July or August 1781, in Grayson Co., Va., he again volunteered as a light horse soldier, under Capt. Stinson, whose company was attached to the command of Col. Arthur Campbell, and was the Chief Commander of the troops.
This expedition was intended to guard against the depredation of the Tories, on the south line of Wilkes County under a certain James Roberts.
They found that the Tories had dispersed, and when the reconnoited the County to that quarter, and then returned to Grayson Co., Va., and he was discharged. He stated that he served two months on this expedition and found his own horse.
That he hereby relinquished every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency of any state.
