THUNDERBOLT - Kennywood

Here she is plunging riders into the second helical curve, as Steel Phantom looms in the background unaware of its short future.

Under a stormy sky, riders create their own bolt of lightning as they careen through the wicked double spiral.

Ravine--Built 1968 by Andy Vettel. Originally was the Pippen from 1924 by John Miller.

The Thunderbolt, originally built as the Pippen in 1924, was re-designed in 1968 by Andy Vettel, and features a 95 foot lift, drops into the ravine, a double-helical spiral with hills, and tunnels. It is unlike any other coaster from that era. The trains even have headlights for night riding! This is the famed wooden coaster that is pierced by Steel Phantom's 225 foot drop.
