Never Tear Us
Apart
By: Jaimie
Jaimie
sat on the beach, watching the waves crash against the shore. Her long, curly
brown hair blew wildly around her as the wind picked up. Tears flowed steadily
from her soft blue eyes, she didn't even bother to wipe them away. Over the
last few months, she had become so accustomed to crying. Her long time
boyfriend, Lance, had left to go on tour three months prior, but before he left
she found out she was pregnant. She didn't want to ruin his career so she broke
up with him, never telling him about the baby. Her best friend, Athena,
constantly nagged her about it, saying it was unfair to Lance to deny him the
knowledge and the choice of whether or not he wanted to be a part of his
child's life. She told her that if she didn't want to be with him anymore it
was one thing, but she shouldn't deny him his child. To Jaimie, it wasn't
whether or not she wanted to be with him. She loved him so much she felt as if
she couldn't breathe when he wasn't around her, but she didn't want to ruin him
just when they really started to take off. Despite Athena's attempts, Jaimie
still kept quiet about the baby. Jaimie constantly returned to this same beach.
The same place Lance told her he loved her for the first time. She could never
forget the look in his green eyes when she told him she didn't love him
anymore. He was crushed. It took all the strength she had not to fall into his
arms and tell him she was lying and confess everything about the baby. She
hadn't spoken to him since that day. She eventually stopped asking Athena how
he was doing. Jaimie was lost in her thoughts when she heard someone speak from
behind her.
"I
thought I'd find you here."
Jaimie
quickly turned around and saw Lance standing behind her, a solumn expression on
his handsome face. Just one look into his eyes and she knew he knew everything.
She buried her face in her hands and began to cry harder. Lance sat down beside
her and pulled her into his embrace. Jaimie clung tightly to him, afraid to let
him go once again. He just held her until her tears subsided. She slowly pulled
away from him, still refusing to look into his eyes. She was afraid of what she
would see reflected in their depths. Lance lifted her chin and turned her to
face him.
"How
could you not tell me?"
"I....I
didn't want to ruin your career. Your popularity was growing more and more with
each passing day and I just didn't want to ruin that for you. I'm so sorry
Lance."
"That
shouldn't have been your decision to make Jaimie. I had a right to know you
were carrying my child."
"I
know." Jaimie whispered as more silent tears began to fall. Lance sighed
heavily and wiped her tears away with his thumb.
"Did
you really stop loving me?" he asked, the pain from her last words to him
still obvious in his eyes.
"I'll
never stop loving you Lance. I never did and I never will. I just told you that
to justify my breaking up with you."
Lance
just looked at her for a moment. He knew she was telling him the truth. He
could tell just by looking at her that the last few months had been hard on
her. Her normally fair skin was even paler than usual. Even though she was
pregnant, she looked like she hadn't eaten in days. She wore no make up on her beautiful
face, allowing all of her freckles that ran across her nose and cheeks to stand
out. He had always loved her freckles. She of course hated them, but he thought
they made her even prettier.
"It
looks like you've aquired two more freckles since I've been gone." he
smiled down at her.
Jaimie
laughed softly, "Really? Well, you'll have to name them then. You can't
make them feel left out."
"Hmmm,"
Lance said thoughtfully. He pointed to a spot on her nose, "This one is
Darcy, and this one is Jack."
"Well,
I'm sure the others will make them feel right at home." Jaimie smiled.
They sat there silent for a moment. "I really am sorry Lance."
Lance
looked away towards the ocean for a moment, "Well, we need to figure out
what we are going to do."
Jaimie's
heart sank. She knew she shouldn't have gotten her hopes up that Lance would
want to be with her again. He just wanted to be a part of the baby's life. She
ruined her chances the day she broke up with him. "Yeah..um what did you
have in mind? Visitation? Joint custody? I won't keep you from the baby."
"I
appreciate that, but I figured I'd be able to see the baby as often as I wanted
since..."
Jaimie
cut him off, "Like I said Lance, I won't keep you away..."
"Jaimie
would you hush for a minute. I was going to say I could see the baby as often
as I wanted because you and the baby would be with me."
"What?
You...you mean you want to be with me?" she choked.
"I
love you Jaimie. I always will. I want to be with you and raise our baby
together."
"How
can you forgive me for what I did to you?"
"You
were wrong, and you know you were. You apologized for it and I know you did
what you thought was in my best interest. Just don't do it again. I don't think
I could take it."
"I
promise you I'll spend the rest of my life proving how much I love you. I
missed you so much Lance."
"I
missed you too Jaim." Lance gently brushed his lips across hers. Jaimie
hoped that in time, she could help fix the heart she broke. She vowed to
herself that she would do everything she could to show him every day just how
much he means to her.
"I
love you."
"I
love you too." Lance smiled.
Lance
went to kiss her again, but Jaimie pulled back slightly. "By the way. How
did you find out about the baby?"
"Athena
let it slip last night. She feels really bad about it, but under the
circumstances I think we should be very grateful to her."
"I
am. I owe her my happiness. If it wasn't for her, I'd still be without
you." Jaimie smiled. "But...I'll still let her sweat it for a
while."
"You're
so bad."
"Don't
ever forget it buddy."
Lance
laughed and pulled her to him in a sweet kiss. They both knew everything would
work out alright in the end. They were meant to be together and nothing would
tear them apart.
