The Boys In The Basement

Prologue

“Mr. McLean, we’ll need your statement,” the uniformed officer stated gently

touching AJ McLean’s tattooed arm.  AJ realized for the first time that the officer was speaking to him...  And probably had for a long time.

“Mr. McLean?” the officer stated again.

“Uh... Yes,” AJ shook his head, clearing it from the haze that had filled it earlier.  His statement?  Would that mean he would have to tell what happened?  Could he tell what happened?  He looked through the open door of the office he was inside to gaze around the bland police station desperately trying to seek out one of his friends, or his mother.  His eyes locked onto Brian Littrell’s.  Brian’s blue eyes were cool and hard as steel, but they softened as they focused on AJ.  He smiled slightly and waved as he was escorted into another room, most likely to release his side of the story too.  AJ felt a little better knowing that his friends, his brothers, even if they weren’t sitting right beside him, were in the same building as him.  Each in his own emotional hell, each in a room like AJ, having to relive the nightmare that had only ended 24 hours before...
