Chapter 4

The sound of voices stirred Brian from his dreamless sleep.  He felt like he was being sucked from a black hole of emptiness and darkness back into..  Where was he again?  He opened his eyes only to be stung by the darkness he thought he had awakened from, Huh?  His mind reeled, desperately trying to remember the previous night. Why couldn’t he see?  He felt something shift on his legs, and suddenly reality came crashing back down on Brian like a ton of bricks as he felt the painful numbness of his legs.  He’d been kidnapped.  He was in the back of a car with Nick on his legs.  He felt wind tousling his hair and knew the door was open and he still heard the voices, the voices of their kidnappers.  He felt an unearthly calm come over him as he stilled to try to make out what they were saying.  It sounded as if they were arguing.

“Split up?  Why?” a female voice was asking heatedly.

“The new cars are smaller, and cannot fit all of them properly,” a grisly male voice answered her, he sounded rather heated himself, “Are you afraid of something Zalia?”

“No!” the female, Zalia, denied angrily, “I just think it’s a bad idea!”

“Why Zalia?  I do think I smell a little fear off of you, maybe I should call the Boss and tell him about...”

“Shut up Brendon!” she snapped angrily.  Brian heard soft footsteps coming nearer to him.  He wondered where they were at?  He knew they couldn’t be on the road, that would be stupid.  Two Ninja guys standing out on side the road with a bunch of guys crammed in the backseat wearing blindfolds.  How inconspicious was that?  Brian snorted to himself.

“What’s so funny Rok?” AJ’s whisper caught Brian by surprise.  He jumped a bit, he had forgotten momentarily about the others in the car with him, being so quiet.

“I think they’re arguing,” Brian whispered back, “Howie?  Nick?  Kevin?”

“They’re asleep Bri,” AJ supplied, “Everyone’s been asleep, except me, and now you.  How could you sleep?”

Brian fought the urge to giggle, “There isn’t exactly anything else better to do in here in the dark now is there?”  Brian felt AJ’s glare through his blindfold.

“I don’t find any of this funny Brian,” AJ hissed gruffly.  He was upset and trying to hide it, but Brian could hear it in his voice.

“I’m sorry, I can’t help it,” Brian apologized trying to shift is legs again to get some feeling back in them.  That got a moan out of Nick.  Brian was about to say something when a noise made him freeze.  The kidnappers, or as Brian now wanted to call them Zalia and Brendon were coming back to the car.  He could smell the vague scent of cigarette smoke.  Brian heard Howie’s hollow shout as he was awakened by one of them and then Brian felt cool air.  Howie’s warm body had been plucked from beside him.  Oh no, they’re gonna split us up!  Brian was panicking again, like he had when they had first taken them off the bus.  If only his hands were free!  He needed to get out, he needed to see... He was going crazy.  He felt Nick’s body being lifted off of him and felt the pain of the pressure being released.

“What’s happening?” came Kevin’s voice from the back, “What’s going on?”

“We’re switching cars, they’re gonna split us up!” Brian said in a loud whisper.  He could feel his breaths coming faster.  He felt rough hands, the same ones that had pulled him out of his bunk, gripping his arms dragging him out of the vehicle.  Brian trying to fight him.  Stupid thing to do when you’re hands are tied behind your back.  He was forced down onto the..  Grass?  Grass?  He felt the pressure around his eyes and temples loosening as the black cloth fell away from his eyes.  He blinked slowly readjusting to being able to see again.  He took deep breaths as he sat on his butt leaning against the tires of the vehicle that had drove them here, wherever they were.  He leaned his head back and stared straight up into the starless sky.  Starless?  That must mean they were near a city.  City lights always flushed out starlights.  A figure in black stood in front over him, blocking his vision now.  It was a feminine figure, a very feminine figure Brian couldn’t help but realize.  She ordered him to his feet.  Brian tried, but didn’t have much luck with his hands tied.  His rib cage exploded with pain as he felt himself being kicked.  He looked up in a daze to still see the female standing over him.

“Why the hell did you do that?” Brian recognized the voice, it was Zalia.  Now Zalia stood over him.  She reached down and took his arms.  She helped him to his feet then barked out, “I take the blond ones.”  No one argued with her, not even Brendon.  As Brian stared at all 6 figures clad in black four of them he could tell were males.  Which one was Brendon?  Brian was seized from behind and being moved before he even had time to make a guess.  Where were they going?  All Brian could see was trees, but slowly he was beginning to make out the shape of a car.  Behind him he could hear more trampling through grass meaning they were being followed.  He wanted to turn around to see if Nick was back there.  He was stopped as he reached the car, that looked black in the night.  He felt the hardness of the gun in his side again, “You move, you die,” was hissed in his ear... This was Brendon...
