Help...
Those slave drivers over at Razor & Tie corporate headquarters are at it again... "Come on, Mike
just one more set of liner notes"... Hey, do you think this musical time traveling is easy? I mean I
hardly recognize these guys on the cover ... Oh well, let's give it a shot .. My first memory of this
project is of renting 46I Ocean BIvd. to live in while we recorded (you know, the ""Clapton" place).
Well, our accountant assures me that that is where the similarities between the two projects ended
... Style-wise we were branching out a bit with tunes like Ladies' Choice (the Bill Szymczyk influ-
enced sojourn into reggae) and the slightly left-of-center Calcutta Auction, which has some great
soloing from Jonah.. . Paul Harris once again played keyboards, although Seth Justman from the
J. Geils Band added some monster organ on Heavyweight .. . One Good Reason features the
David Sanborn "Let's-See-If-We-Can-Simulate-A-Mental-Breakdown" sax ensemble (turn this baby
way up and watch your dog do the Linda Blair!)... Let It Slide as I remember it, was a rip off of
the Eagles Already Gone but once again the accountants find no common ground... The
acoustic trio of Blue Jean Boy, Old Dancing Fool and Edge Of The Sky still makes me smile
and I think, in retrospect, was the type of thing we did best... Love Hasn't Been Here was
written for Danny Peccio to sing and Choice And Sanborn (get it?) was a cool excuse to listen
to David play a little bit more... Also, the original version of Jonah's Strike Up The Band is
here, a song which has pleasantly haunted MSB from that time on ... No live show has ever been
over until we played it... Once again, special thanks and affection go out to Bill Szymczyk, David
Spero and Paul Harris: three very special and wonderfully twisted friends who helped make this outing
a reality . . OK, that's it: the last liner notes for the MSB reissues ... Thanks to Cliff and Craig for
making them all happen without a stylus... It's a nice day, let's play two!
