HERE WE GO AGAIN...
MSB WAS OUR THIRD ALBUM FOR EMI-AMERICA AND STILL ONE OF
MY FAVORITES, BUT IT WAS DEFINITELY A PROJECT THAT TOOK A TOLL
ON ALL INVOLVED... DON GEHMAN WAS ENLISTED TO ENGINEER AND
CO-PRODUCE AND WAS A SAINT AMONGST THE INSANITY ... I KNOW
YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED, BUT THE INSANITY I'M SPEAKING OF WAS
NOT OF THE SEX AND DRUGS VARIETY... WHAT WE DID HAVE WERE
SEVERAL NERVOUS BREAKDOWNS AND THE NIT-PICKING PURSUIT OF
PERFECTION... SOMEHOW, HOWEVER, IN SPITE OF OURSELVES (AND
PROBABLY BECAUSE OF MR. GEHMAN) WE MADE A REAL GOOD ALBUM
(MY OPINION, BUT, HEY, THESE ARE MY LINER NOTES)...IN BETWEEN
THE LINES AND SPANISH NIGHTS ARE STILL TWO OF MY FAVORITE
SONGS I'VE WRITTEN, AND KEVIN'S ONE OF THOSE DREAMS IS DAMN
CLOSE TO A PERFECT BALLAD... THIS WAS THE LAST ALBUM FOR
GUITARIST GARY MARKASKY AND THE ONE WHERE TENOR SAX PLAYER
RICK BELL REALLY CAME INTO HIS OWN; HE PLAYED HIS ASS OFF ON
THIS ONE... THE ALBUM STARTED OUT GREAT, BUT DUE TO SOME
MAJOR INNER OFFICE STRUGGLES AT EMI OVER WHICH SONG TO GET
BEHIND, SOON LOST ITS MOMENTUM... STILL, IT'S ONE THAT I LISTEN
TO OCCASIONALLY AND IT GAVE SEVERAL STANDARDS TO THE LIVE
SHOW...SPECIAL THANKS TO DON GEHMAN WHO SOMEHOW KEPT IT
ALL MOVING (SLOWLY, BUT AT LEAST MOVING) AND MADE IT SOUND
GREAT!
CLEVELAND, SUMMER 92
PS: INCLUDED ARE TWO BONUS TRACKS, IN BETWEEN THE LINES AND
FIRE IN THE HOLE RECORDED IN AUGUST OF 1984 AT BLOSSOM MUSIC
CENTER THAT ORIGINALLY APPEARED ON OUR LIVE ALBUM, FOURTH
AND TEN ... CRANK 'EM!
