Hey Thrillseekers,
Earlier this year, Cliff and Craig (the head honchos at Razor &
Tie, and two guys that are far too nice to be running a record company)
approached me about putting out a Michael Stanley Band
retrospective (think of it as one of those pricey boxed sets without
the box or those bothersome other compact discs) ... It sounded like
a good idea since "when is your stuff coming out on CD?" has
replaced "how come you guys aren't more famous?" as the question
of the hour ... then they said I could write liner notes and
pick the tunes (I told you they were too nice) ... Well, we differed
on the song selection (now that's more like a record company) and
hopefully enough of you will buy this one so they can put out
volume two with some of the good stuff that didn't make it on this
one... but, nonetheless I truly appreciate their interest and the
chance to eb involved in the project ... In putting this together I got
to listen to lots of things I hadn't heard for years and, although some
of it sounds quite dated to me now, I was quite proud of them all
at the time ... All the guys that made up MSB over the years are what
made it special for me and I thank them for their friendship and
creativity ... and, none of it would have been possible without the
support of our friends and families and the best fans in the world ...
The individuals that should be thanked are far too numerous to list
here, but some just can't be overlooked ... Special thanks to our road
manager Jim Soffos and our crew, Dan Montecalvo, Pat Scardina,
John Vorobel and Cyril Turek ... David Spero, Mike Belkin and
everyone at Belkin Productions, Bill Szymczyk, Robert John "Mutt"
Lange, Harry Maslin, Fred Mollin, Eddie Cramer, Don Gehman and
Bob Clearmountain ... Thank God for the man who put the white
lines on the highway and thank God for all of you who believed and
still care! Keep Rocking!
Michael Stanley
