Standing on the corner Suitcase in my hand Jack he's in his corset, Jane is in her vest Me, I'm in a rock n roll band Ridin' in a Stutz Bearcat, Jim, yeah Those were different times And the poets they studied rules of verse And the ladies they rolled their eyes Saying Water spirit spring Springin' round my head Makes me feel glad That I'm not dead Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way Sweet Jane Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way And Jack, he is a banker Jane, she is a clerk They both of them save their money When they come home from work Sittin' there by the fire And the radio does play The march of the wooden soldiers I can swear you can hear Jack say Water spirit spring Springin' round my head Sweet Jane Makes me feel glad That I'm not dead Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way Sweet Jane Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way Sweet Jane Some people like to go out dancing The rest of us we gotta work There's even some evil mothers Tell you life is nothing but dirt And women never really faint And villains never blink their eyes And children are the only ones who blush And life is just to die Anyone who had a heart They wouldn't turn around and break it Anyone who played the part They wouldn't turn around and break it, no Water spirit spring Springin' round my head Sweet Jane Makes me feel glad That I'm not dead Water spirit spring Springin' round my head Sweet Jane Makes me feel glad That I'm not dead Water spirit spring Springin' round my head Sweet Jane Makes me feel glad That I'm not dead Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way Witchi-tai-to, gimee rah Whoa rah neeko, whoa rah neeko Hey ney, hey ney, no way Sweet Jane To fade
SWEET JANE / WICHI TAI TO (LOU REED / JIM PEPPER) HOW DID THESE TWO TUNES END UP COHABITATING HERE? GOOD QUESTION! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS I HEARD JIM PEPPER'S SONG / NATIVE AMERICAN PEYOTE CHANT "WICHI TAI TO" AND, FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, FOUND MYSELF SINGING "SWEET JANE" DURING SOME OF THE INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDES AND HENCE, THIS LITTLE MONSTER WAS CONCEIVED BESIDES, HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET TO MIX A PEYOTE CHANT WITH A TUNE ABOUT CROSS-DRESSING NEW YORKERS? OR, THEN AGAIN, MAYBE THAT'S SOME. THING THAT HAPPENS FAR MORE THAN I CAN EVEN TO BEGIN TO IMAGINE
