Diagnosis & Treatment

Endometriosis can only be diagnosed through performing surgery. The surgery of choice is a laparoscopy. Laparoscopies are less invasive than a laparotomy and recovery is much faster.

Before your physician suggests a laparoscopy he will probably try a more conservative approach. A common treatment is the use of birth control pills. You may be prescribed continuous birth control pills which mean there is no break in your cycle. Instead of taking the last week of your pills (the sugar/placebo) you will start another pack. You will have no menstrual period, hopefully decreasing your pain. Your physician may prescribe this regimen for up to six months. Many women find much relief using this form of treatment. I have been currently treating my symptoms with BCP's and it has given me tremendous relief.
