"Whoever acknowledges Me before people, I will also acknowledge that person before My Father in heaven" ...[Matthew 10:32]
To me, a "false idol" is anything or anyone that draws our attention away from furthering our relationship with God and prevents us from being God's ambassadors to other people.
My daily life includes getting children ready for school each morning, rushing off to the job, working hard all day, and arriving home just in time to get the kids bathed, stories read, and tucked in bed by 10:00 pm. The wife and I might get 30 minutes alone together before we collapse into bed.
This hectic schedule often crowds out prayer time and keeps me from helping neighbors or disadvantaged people who need help. So how do we make time to be quiet with God and do outreach? I would be happy to hear how YOU approach this question, because I have wrestled with this issue for years!
