The Heart of Ohio Trail is a rail-trail project proposed from south of Centerburg (connecting to the west to a proposed Delaware County trail)to the Kokosing Gap Trail in Mount Vernon, Ohio, thus offering 16 miles of walking, skating and biking trail, as well as an adjacent three mile horse trail from Thayer Road to Patton Road. The Heart of Ohio Trail is currently opened from the Village of Centerburg to Columbus Road (near Parrot St.) in Mount Vernon. The trail is paved, except for a 2 mile stretch between Graham and Thayer Roads that is comprised of railroad ballast, stone and fines. This section is scheduled to be paved in 2013, leaving only the first three miles of trail (south of centerburg) unpaved and closed.
