Episode Two: Surprises

Reward Challenge
The two tribes (one with eight and one with seven) made their way onto Challenge Beach where the two hosts were standing. As soon as they were all there, Adam began to tell them, “This is your first Reward Challenge and some of the rewards in this challenge are actually quite nice. The name of the challenge is “Mind Master” and requires your knowledge of the island you are living on right now as well as Indonesia. You guys will be asked eight questions, each tribe member will have to answer one, and you must write the answer on the pad you are given. When you are told, hold the pad up to reveal your answer. If you get it correct, your tribe will receive a point. The tribe with the most points will win.”

“The rewards are great,” Christopher said. “We will take the winning tribe out into a field with numerous coconuts spread about. The number of points you earned is the number of coconuts you get to gather. Inside each coconut is a piece of paper with a reward on it. This reward may be matches, food or even an individual immunity for one of your tribe mates.” The Survivors liked the idea for this reward challenge and were anxious to begin. Christopher continued: “Bulan, since you are one shy whomever goes first also goes last.” Harriet and Cole stepped up to the platform and were given their pad. They were then asked a question. The question was ‘What is the population of Indonesia? A) 224,784,210 B) 345,345,667 C) 120,987,890.’ Harriet and Cole wrote down their answers and when asked to reveal what they put, Harriet wrote down the correct answer (A) while Cole wrote down an incorrect answer (C). At that, Matahari received a point.

Ruben holding up his correct answer

The next two to be asked a question were Emily and Ruben. They were asked, ‘Who is the president of Indonesia? A) Ho Chi Minh B) Megawati Soekarnoputri C) Stepholoni Chinishu.’ Emily answered with “C” while Ruben answered with “B.” Again, Matahari got a point when Ruben got his answer correct. Bulan began trailing in this challenge and Matahari was winning. Mark and Madison were asked their question next and they both got it wrong leaving the score as 2-0: Matahari.

Mick and Kyle were both asked a question next. They were asked ‘What is the main religion of Indonesians? A) Muslim B) Christianity C) Buddhism.’ Mick got his answer incorrect (C) while Kyle (answering with A) got his correct. The score was now 3-0: Matahari. If Matahari were to get two more correct, they would win the challenge. Trinity and Olivia were both next and both got the answer correct. Trinity was the first to answer correctly for the Bulan Tribe. ‘What is the average temperature for Indonesia? A) 77 to 81 degrees B) 67 to 71 degrees C) 92 to 98 degrees’ was the question asked to Babette and Marco. Babette got the question correct while Marco, unfortunately, missed it. This set the score at 5-1: Matahari Tribe; and that meant that the Matahari Tribe won the Reward Challenge no matter what. Cecely and Tyler were asked questions and Tyler got his incorrect thus meaning that Matahari would get to choose six coconuts and Bulan would get to go back to camp wishing they would have won.

The rewards in the six coconuts for Matahari Tribe were: one knife, one pair of flippers, one stack of letters from family members, one set of paints, one rope and an individual immunity for one member of the Matahari Tribe.

Day Five:
Low Spirits

Cole discussing strategy

Bulan was really longing to win a challenge. More than anything they felt that they needed a challenge or that they may never be able to recuperate for the loss. In a confessional, Cole stated: “I was stuck here with a bunch of losers. The only decent ones are Asher, Emily and that hot babe Madison. Damn, she's hot; I want to get with that! I just love being the one who controls everyone. I've lied to everyone. Nobody should trust me. I'd vote out my own mother! And the way I play with Mick, it's genius, he's so gullible. In fact, they all are. They're all putty in my hands.”

Despite losing the challenges, Mick was also depressed about the fact his time was almost up; he felt that he had been lied to. Mick wanted answers for what had happened at the last Tribal Council. Building up the courage, Mick decided to go up to Cole and confront him about why he lied to himself and Karen and kept Asher instead. At this time, Cole was basking in the sun on the beach when Mick stood up in front of him blocking the sun's rays from Cole. Cole looked up at Mick and snidely asked, “Yes?”

“Cole, we need to talk,” Mick told him. “It's about the last vote. You told me you looked up to Karen like a mother type figure, and then you tell me your gonna vote out Asher, but you keep him instead? What happened?”

Cole laughed and told him, “It's all about power. If I tell you all one story and somebody else something else the next, then I can control his or her votes. It gives me all the power, and I can decide whom I really wanna vote out. Asher, the others, and me all have this tight bond, and ain't you, or nobody gonna break it!”

Mick was shocked at what he was hearing. Furious he screamed, “Yeah, we'll see about that.”

“Oh, what are you gonna do big man?” Cole asked.

“You think you're so smart, and you think you have it all figured out. One day you'll see my real plans, and you'll run scared.” Mick turned away, but decided to turn back to continue the argument. “You lied to me and you lied to Karen!”

“I promised you nothing!” Cole exclaimed. “You're the fool who believed me. And now that you just dug yourself into this hole there's no way out of. You're next old man.”

“We'll see,” Mick said as he stormed off.

“Old fool,” Cole muttered under his breath. It seems as if Mick was in danger of being voted out if the Bulan Tribe lost this upcoming challenge. However, would we he be able to change that?
