As Justin and his teammates raced out on the field
to begin the warm up for the game Justin paused to scan the bleachers quickly
finding Josh sitting all the way in the back. He was looking around him every
now and then. Justin could see he was nervous but he was glad Josh was there.
Justin made his next shot with extra care, the basketball whooshed through the
air and fell through the hoop perfectly. As he looked in Josh’s direction he
locked eyes with the blue eyed angel. He knew Josh had seen it and he smiled
shyly.
Josh
didn’t know what he saw; was that a shy smile? Nah! He must have seen it wrong.
He watched how Justin pulled his gaze away from him and dribbled the ball that
his teammate had passed to him. Justin met his eyes every now and then and he
would smile at him in a certain way. Josh couldn’t help but think Justin was
flirting with him. Not possible, he was probably imagining it. He shook his
head and looked around him once again, he could feel people’s eyes on him. He
knew they were watching him, wondering what the hell he was doing here.
Actually he was wondering the same thing because he didn’t want to be there but
he knew he had to, something the other spectators weren’t aware off. Josh felt
uncomfortable but focused his eyes back on the court. He’d just ignore them. A
whistle startled him a little, it was so shrill but he noticed it didn’t really
affect anyone else and he knew he just wasn’t used to the sound. He understood
the game was about to begin and he was relieved. The sooner it would start the
sooner it would be over.
Justin
put the ball away and joined his teammates as they surrounded the coach for
some last instructions. As usual they finished it off with their school cheer
before they took their positions on the court. The referee soon gave the
opening whistle for the game.
Throughout
the whole game Justin did his uttermost to impress his crush who was watching
from a distance. He didn’t know if it was working but if it didn’t work he
wasn’t to blame; he’d done his utmost. He had a great game and was more than
satisfied with his total score of the day. If Josh would be impressed? He
didn’t know.
Josh
was kind of impressed, Justin was a good player but it didn’t make him like him
more. He didn’t understand Justin, he didn’t understand his motives and he
didn’t understand why he wanted him to be here; to impress him? But why would
Justin want to impress him?

The
whistle sounded, indicating the end of the game and Josh sighed relieved, glad
it was over and that he could go home. He waited a little till the people
around him started filing out before following.
“Hey”
a voice startled him a little, a body appearing in front of him. Josh looked up
slowly; seeing the basketball uniform before settling on blue eyes and curly
hair; Justin.
“Hi”
Josh sighed a little, not knowing how Justin had spotted him. He’d hoped to
just go home now; probably wasn’t happening.
“You
wanna wait a little while I’ll shower, I won’t be long”
Josh
shrugged, he knew he didn’t have much of a choice, sighing once again he
answered. “Sure” Justin seemed to ignore his reluctance once again.
“Cool,
I’ll be back in about 15 minutes” he told him, already turning towards the
dressing room.
“Kay”
Josh sighed, totally not feeling like staying here but Justin wanted him to.
“I’ll
wait outside” Josh said, not wanting to stay here.
“Sure,
I’ll be right out” Justin agreed before turning and jogging away. Josh watched
him go before he turned around and slowly walked towards the exit, taking a
seat on the steps leading up to the gym as he waited for Justin.

“I
think congratulations are in order right?” Josh started as they walked home.
Justin had picked him up and suggested to walk him home. Once again Josh agreed
although he rather went home himself.
“Why?”
Justin asked a little confused, not expecting Josh to speak first.
“Well
you won the game” Josh explained but he couldn’t keep the ‘duh’ tone out of his
voice.
“Right”
Justin said, hitting himself in the head, thinking it was stupid of him to not
have thought of that. He felt his cheeks flush and hoped Josh wouldn’t see.
“So…
congratulations” Josh told him, eyeing him for a second. A frown appeared; was
that Justin blushing?
“Thanks”
Justin smiled, looking his way. Their eyes met. Josh studied him; he didn’t see
the blush anymore but his eyes were friendly and he looked a little insecure.
Justin studied Josh in his turn like he always did; staring deeply into his
beautiful blue eyes and he couldn’t help it as the smile widened. Josh scraped
his throat, finally breaking eye contact by looking away.
“You’re
pretty good” he told him.
“At
basketball I mean” he added, knowing the statement had been a little vague.
“Thank
you” Justin smiled again.
“I’m
glad you came” Justin returned.
“You
didn’t leave me much choice” Josh muttered. Justin caught his words and smiled
a little; he liked his spirit. Josh wouldn’t lie.
“I
hope you liked it” Justin said honestly. He meant it; he really hoped Josh had
had a good time.
“Sure”
Josh said a little indifferent. It hadn’t been bad, it hadn’t been like the
worst night of his life but he would have preferred to be home instead.
“This
is my house” Josh said suddenly, he’d almost missed it; too busy talking and
thinking.
“Thanks
for coming” Justin told him again.
“Sure”
“And
I’ll see you tomorrow?” Justin told him saying goodbye.
“Uh…
okay” Josh responded, a little taken aback Justin wasn’t making new demands.
“Goodnight”
Justin smiled before walking further down the street, walking home himself.
“Bye”
Josh said when Justin was still within hearing range, seeing how he stuck up
his left hand in his goodbye greet. Josh shook his head; this whole situation
was strange. He decided not to further think about it as he went inside and
went up the stairs to his bedroom, laying down on his bed, sighing as he slowly
fell asleep.
