Chapter 27
5 years later;
“Happy Birthday, Guppy” Josh whispered in his
lover’s ears.
Justin’s 21 birthday, years they’d been living to
this moment, the moment that they were officially safe from Justin’s parents.
Although his parents had never contacted them again after that night, they
still wouldn’t feel completely safe until Justin was officially an adult.
Howard was a strange man, he’d proven that to Josh many times and Josh had been
afraid all those years that the man would come back sometime for his son, but
he never had. It had hurt Justin in a way but he’d been happier than ever at
the same time. They’d built up a nice life here in LA, they’d left the bad
memories in New York and started a whole new life here together.
After almost a year of living in LA, they were
finally getting the feeling that they were somewhat safe; Josh had had his
mother flown over to LA. He couldn’t stand the thought of her being so far away
and alone. When they finally got enough money, they let her fly in and settled
her in a new nursing home in LA just a few blocks from their apartment.
Justin had managed to get his high school diploma,
with Josh urging him on and he’d managed a job during the day and classes at
night. Josh had been so proud of him when he got the famous little piece of
paper and he’d never felt better about himself either. He was even starting
college in the fall and if everything went alright Josh was going to join him.
Justin even got back in contact with his old friend
Joey who had been a major support pole for him in school. They called now and
then and Joey himself moved to LA as well a couple of years ago and he’d been
so happy when he saw how happy Justin was. The prayers had done their work well
Joey had thought when he saw the couple together.
Overall life was good on Justin and Josh these
days. Howard and everything else they’d been through to achieve this only a
memory now but a memory that they carried with them every day to remind them of
the fact how precious love was and you should always fight for it.
No matter how hopeless it might seem because in
some cases; love does conquer all.
