Part 10

Nick and Alex calmly walked down the hall and to the elevator where they met up with Jeff.

"So, you can give the driver directions," Nick told Alex as the elevator started on its way down.

"Do you know the governor Alex?" Jeff asked.

"You could say that. I used to be best friends with his daughter Marcia," Alex said with a smile, grabbing Nick's hand.  Making sure Jeff noticed, of course. The elevator opened and they walked through the lobby and out the door to the limo.

"So, how did you meet the governor's daughter?" Jeff asked.

"Our parents are old friends. We were sort of forced together at a young age," Alex said, explaining it to Drew, Jeff, and Justin.

"Are your parents still alive?" Justin asked.

"Yes. As a matter of fact, you'll probably be meeting them tonight."

"Well, that will be a pleasant surprise for them, won't it?" Drew asked.

"One of many, I assure you," Alex said, snuggling against Nick. His arm went around her and brought her closer to him.

The ride to the mansion was spent with chitchat about Alex's family and the governor. When they arrived at the mansion, the butler, Jeeves escorted them to the main living room.

"Jeeves, do tell Marcia I've come calling," Alex said.

"Miss Alex! I did not recognize you. What on earth are you doing her with Mr. Whitman's guests?"

"Jeeves," Alex said. "These are my friends. Just tell Marcia I've come calling. Tell her to meet me in the library. Oh and Jeeves?" she stopped the old butler from running off.

"Yes Miss Alex?"

"Don't tell Mr. Whitman I'm here. I want it to be a surprise," Alex said with a glance at Nick.

"Yes, Miss Alex," Jeeves said rushing off.

"Another surprise?" Nick whispered, pulling her to him. "Aren't there enough for the evening?" He asked through clenched teeth.

"Not yet. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting to attend." She gave him a quick peck on the cheek before walking out of the room and around the corner.

"You two are quite cozy, aren't you?" Drew asked.

"I suppose why?"

"Just saying. You weren't like that before." Jeff and Justin were in the other side of the room, looking at photographs. "Did you sleep with her?"

"Not in the way you're suggesting. Trust me."

"I do brother. But do you trust yourself?"
