Part
6
Nick wasn't asleep when Alex started dreaming. At
first she was just tossing and turning, making little whimpering noises. Of
course, Justin did that on occasion, and it echoed on the tour bus, so Nick was
used to it. Everyone on the bus would be awake listening to Justin's noises and
mumbling until he stopped dreaming or woke up.
Nick was used to it, but when Alex started talking
and his name popped up, he listened. When the talking turned to screaming, he
leapt from his place on the couch. The soothing things he whispered seemed to
calm her down, but the second Nick went to go back to the couch, the screaming
started up again.
~*~*~*
Alex's dream was awful. She'd been walking to the
elevator behind Nick on their way to the doctor, and the greasy-haired man from
the alley came up behind her, pushing her out of the way. He stalked toward
Nick. In his hand was a long, silver dagger, glinting in the hotel's lighting.
"No! Nick!" She screamed. Alex tried to
wake herself up, but she couldn't. Then, she thought maybe it is real.
"Nick! Look out!" In her dream, the man
plunged the knife deep into Nick's side. Nick fell to the floor, blood staining
the cream colored carpet. The man glanced at Alex before running. Alex sat
there on the floor where he'd pushed her a moment
ago, before scrambling toward Nick.
"Nick! Don't die on me! You can't die! Please
don't die!" She screamed, starting to cry.
~*~*~*~*
Nick put a hand over her mouth, but could hear her
muffled screams.
"Nick! Don't die on me! You can't die! Please
don't die!" Was the muffled screaming that he heard.
"Alex! Wake up Alex! Wake up!" he shook
her gently.
~*~*~*
Nick looked up at Alex, knowing he was going to
die, if he didn't get medical attention
"Nick!" Alex sobbed, pressing her hand
against the cut in his side.
"Alex. Get Drew," Nick whispered to her
weakly.
"I can't leave you!"
"You have to. Go now! Before it's too
late."
"Okay. Press here," Alex put his hand
over hers. "Don't die on me!" she kissed his forehead before getting
up and running down the hall.
"Drew!" she screamed, pounding on his
door. "Drew!" she sobbed, pounding on the door.
"Coming!" she heard from the other side
of the door.
"Hurry Drew!" Alex sobbed running back to
Nick.
"Nick, look at me. Look at me dammit!"
she screamed at him.
Drew opened his door and stepped outside, seeing
his brother on the floor ran to him. The blood. There was so much of it.
"What happened?"
"The guy from the alley," Alex paused to
take a deep breath, "came here and I couldn't warn him soon enough. Drew,
help him. Please help him. I can't lose him. I love him," Alex said. Then she realized what she'd said.
"Nick," she took his face in her hands. "Nick, look at me please."
He opened his eyes slowly.
"Alex-"
"I love you Nick. You can't die on me! You
can't!" Nick smiled at that and closed his eyes.
"Ditto."
"Alex," Drew's voice made her look away
from Nick. "There's nothing I can do. It's too late."
"No!"
~*~*~*~*
"NO!" Alex screamed, bolting up in the
bed.
"Alex, it's okay. You're fine. It's
okay."
"Nick?" she asked, throwing her arms
around him. "You're alive," she whispered.
"Yeah, I'm alive," He said pulling her
closer. He rested his chin on top of her head, as Alex cried into his shoulder.
