M1941 Johnson The Johnson competed fiercely with the M1 Garand for acceptance by the US military. With a Rotory magazine, unique recoil operation, and quick release barrel, many favored it to the M1. Still the M1, made by a government owned arsenal, won the acceptance by the US military. The Johnson was finally accepted by the Marines for paratroop and raider forces, when a Dutch contract for the Johnson was canceled, and M1 rifles were in short supply. |
