FORGIVING EYES
The Script Team's Message At the beginning of October 1994, several friends came together to discuss staging a musical focusing on the person of Jesus and the women in His times. We (The script team) started by setting the objective of nurturing our faith through the formative process of writing a script. In the Process of writing the script, we shared about our images of Jesus. The images of which we treasure over the formative years of our faith journey and experiences, taught or learnt. We journeyed together in prayer, retreats and input sessions. Sometimes, the Jesus we encountered shook the very foundation of our personal faith. Sometimes, He enlightened us with the simplest and most basic of truths we so often overlooked. At other times, He affirmed and comforted us in our spiritual deserts. The Jesus portrayed in the script challenges us to be true to ourselves through His 'human-ness'. He challenges us to serve and love the very person God places next to us through His earthly life and ministry. He challenges us about the trappings of social and religious norms, and the ingenious ways in which we rationalise our faith. This musical salutes and celebrates the women in His time, reaffirming those who constantly struggle with the prejudices still strongly present today. Mother Mary, the Woman who perservered in faith in spite of the many situations against her. Mary Magdalene, the sinner who was constantly listening out for God's call to be reconciled.
We started out on a journey wanting to come to Jesus. At the end of the journey, we realised He was with us all this while.
In His Love, Forgiving Eyes was screened from the 30th May to 1st June 1997, at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore. |
