Chance of a Lifetime Chapter 3
"Well, you must be Nicole, right? It's nice to meet you," he said as
we shook hands. "Have you met the guys yet?"
Donna answered for me, "No, she's only met the band and crew, the boys
are still at MGM."
Johnny got a serious look on his face and said, "You have worked with
other artists before so I am sure that we can trust you you to be
professional at all times. We usually don't hire people we don't know or
who aren't recommended to us, but your references were excellent so..."
I politely interrupted him, "Mr. Wright, I assure you that I can be
totally mature and professional when it comes to working around
artists."
"Good," he said with a smile, "Well, I will see you later, I've got
some business to take care of. I hope you'll be happy working with us.
Oh, and please call me Johnny!"
"Thank you I know I will."
After he walked away, Donna looked at her watch and said, "Are you
ready to go to work? I think I noticed them having a few mic problems,
if you want to go follow around one of the crew leaders, I am sure they
will put you to work. I'd go take you to see if the guys were back but I
have to run and make a few calls."
She said this kind of apologetically, so I told her it was okay.
"Great," she said looking relieved, "make yourself at home and get to
know the other crew members, they're not too bad," she said with a wink.
I said goodbye and walked back over to the stage area. Mike the crew
leader was working near the sound board so I walked over to him to see
what I could do.
"Hi, what can I get started on?
He looked up from the board and smiled, "Do you feel like unloading
some of those lighting crates over there?"
"Sure, I'll get right on it."
Meanwhile...
Nick, A.J., Kevin, Howie, and Brian were coming back from a a few
hours in the MGM Studios Theme Park.
"When was the sound check again?" A.J. asked.
"5:00pm," howie answered.
"Great then were gonna be right on time, for once!"
The stage crew including myself had just finished working out the
lighting and mic bugs when they arrived near the stage. My back was to
them so I didn't see them. I was standing over near the drum set with
Freddy, one of the band members, laughing at some jokes. part of my job
was to keep towels and water bottles near the stage exit for the guys to
use throughout the concert. So I walked backstage to get some right as
the guys walked on. I was gone for about five minutes when I heard them
start singing and rushed back to the side of the stage to watch. I had
never been to a BSB concert before and I was blown away by how really
and truly talented they were in person. They warmed up with half of
"Anywhere for you", and then part of "Get Down". During one of the
breaks to readjust the mics, Freddy called me over to where they all
were standing. As I walked up to them I could barely breath and I don't
usually get starstruck!
A.J. was the first to stick out his hand, "Nice to meet you," he
said, looking directly into my eyes.
I shook hands with all of them and every single one had the most
gorgeous eyes. I could hardly get a word out.
"So where are you from, Nicole?" Brian asked.
"I am going to college in Nashville as a Music Business major, at the
moment.'
"Really? That's so phat! So, how old are you then?"
"I just turned 18."
"So you're right around Nick's age then," Brian said, with a smile.
Nick hadn't said much the whole time we'd been standing there so I
said, "I hear you are the practical joker of the group, I have done my
share as well, so maybe we should get together and compare notes
sometime."
He said with a shy smile, "Yeah, I guess I have gotten these guys
pretty good sometimes."
"Yeah," A.J. said, with mock seriousness, "and if you're smart you'll
watch your back around him."
I just laughed. Just then Johnny walked up to the group.
"Guys you should probably get ready for the show it starts in an
hour. Nicole, Donna is over by the buses with the car if you want to
unload your stuff. She'll show you where you are going to be staying."
"Okay," I said turning back to the guys, "I guess I'll see you guys
later, good luck at the concert."
I turned to walk away as they said goodbye.
"Hey," Nick called, "you'll be at the concert right?"
"Yeah, of course," I said, smiling, "It's part of my job remember!"
