Chapter Sixteen

It was Monday, and Whitney was a nervous wreck. Her evening with Brandon and occasionally Sadie, and dinner with her family, was interesting and fun. Turns out that Brandon lived on a small farm and owned a couple of horses. Horses and skateboarding were his passions. They kept it g-rated, and agreed to call eachother regularly. Almost like dates over the phone. Whitney figured Kristi couldn't be mad at a phone conversation, especially since he lived so far away. Lucky for them her attention span with guys is short, so she'll be moving on to the next guy and not even care that Whitney had his number and not her. Whitney was relieved when she got home that her dad hadn't waited up. She really didn't feel like giving him the corny details of the night. She was already past that, and thinking ahead to tomorrow. She hadn't told anyone about her upcoming date with Isaac. She was excited, and slightly scared with him being a celebrity and all, but it was hard to think of him like that when she had already seen him trying to stretch in a dance class. That was kind of funny. Anyway, the person she would call on for reinforcements for today was Emily. She seemed to know more about them than Whitney did, and Whitney had spent four hours in their house. Emily could help with the outfit, seeing as Whitney didn't have any clue as to what was appropriate.
"Are you sure I should wear a miniskirt?" Whitney held the pink pleated skirt up against herself and looked in the mirror in disbelief.
"Of course. You've got great legs. Show them off. I bet he'll go crazy for that."
"Em, I'm not trying to get him to sleep with me. Do I have to remind you that I hardly know him?"
"No, but with this outfit he'll want to spend more time with you, and I can guarantee he won't forget you. And that's good considering he'll be touring within the next month."
"Okay, again, I'm not trying to go long term. No sleeping, no marrying, nothing. It's just a date."
"A date with Isaac Hanson!" She squealed. Whitney rolled her eyes.
"Maybe next time, if there is a next time, I can persuade him to double date, and you can date the other one." Emily's eyes grew so big, Whitney thought they would pop out of her head.
"You would do that for me?!"
"Sure." Whitney smiled.
"Do you know what you're doing? Where you're going?" Emily asked, getting down to business.
"He mentioned maybe a late movie or something. But I don't know if I want to go to a nine o'clock movie. Movies are usually two hours, and by then it'd be eleven, and I have to tutor at their house tomorrow. It's my longest day of the week. Maybe I'll suggest a walk or an outside cafe. Besides. Movies are so impersonal."
"I thought you wern't trying to get married." Emily smiled slyly.
"I'm not, but if I want a second date to bring you on, I have to hook a second date for myself. Maybe...." Whitney started going through her closet.
"How about this?" Emily asked. "It's still cute, but it doesn't scream slut, and since it still gets kind of cold at night..." She held up a longer pleated jean skirt, a form fitting sky blue lace tank top, and a matching jean jacket. "Just in case. And you could "accidentally" leave it in the car so you'd be cold." Whitney smiled.
"I think that would be perfect." Taking the outfit from her, Whitney glanced at her clock. "I have to get ready for my classes. I'll leave it out here so I can change superfast. Thanks for coming over to help." She gave Emily a quick hug.
"Anytime. And if you can, hook me up with Taylor."
"I'll drop a few hints."
"Promise?"
"Yes. Promise."
"Kay. Talk to you later."
"I'll let you know first thing tomorrow morning in school."
"Great. Bye! Oh, good luck."
"Thanks. Bye!" Emily let herself out. Turning back to her closet, Whitney pulled out some shorts, a leotard, and dug for some tights in a drawr. Racing to get ready, she put her hair up in a pony tail and grabbed her bag. "Ready!" She called, running down the stairs.
"There you are. I showed Emily out a minute ago."
"Yeah. She was helping me out for later."
"I don't want you out past midnight on a school night."
"I know dad, believe me. Tomorrow is my long day. But let's go so I won't be late."
