She left the door open only a crack, and went in search of Avery. Whitney put a warm-up tape in and began stretching. A little boy snuck in the room and sat on the chair. Whitney looked over at him.
"Are you Mackie?"
"Yes." He said proudly. "Who're you?"
"I'm Whitney. A dance teacher." She heard another stampede of footsteps, and Diana yelled again, "No running in the house! Go outside!" Diana turned to come into the room, leading a little girl.
"Avery, this is your teacher Whitney."
"Hi Avery!"
"Hi Whitney." She said quietly.
"Well, have fun. I'll send Jessie in at eight." She ruffled Mackie's hair on the way out. "Be good." He nodded, placing his index finger over his lips. Diana smiled, nodded, and closed the door.
Whitney went over to Avery and knelt so she was eye level.
"What's your favorite song Avery?"
"I don't know."
"Do you like 'Rockin Robin' by Bobby Day?"
"I guess."
"Do you want to hear it, then decide?"
"Sure." Whitney went back over to the sterio, turned off the warm-up music, then dug out another c.d. from her bag and put it in the player, hit song three and then play. It ended a few minutes later.
"Do you like that song Avery?"
"Yeah."
"Would you want to dance to that?"
"Okay."
"Good. Come on over and we'll stretch for a couple minutes." They sat together in the middle of the room while 'Rockin' Robin' played on repeat. A while later, Whitney began to choreograph a dance. The hour passed, and soon Diana came in to put Avery and Mackie to bed. Whitney sat and waited for Jessie. Whitney slid into the straddle splits, and turned away from the door. When she switched to face the door, she saw three heads in the doorway. She slid her legs together and smiled at them. Leaning over her legs, she rested her chin in her hands, elbows on the floor. "Come on in." They slowly walked by Mackie and knelt down around her. "Wait- let me guess. You're Isaac, you're Taylor and you're Zac." She said, pointing to each of them in turn.
"Yeah. How'd you know?" Zac asked.
"Your mom told me about you guys." Isaac and Taylor especially, were studying me very closely. "You guys are very noisy." She told them. Jessie came in.
"It's time for you three to leave." Jessie informed her brothers. They turned to their sister, then got up and left reluctantly.
"Hi Jessie."
"Hi Whitney- and shut the door!" She called behind her. "Boys are weird."
