Chapter Nine
"Hour's up. I have to take Whitney home now. I'm sure her parents are wondering where in the world she is."
"Don't worry about my dad. He know's I'm here. He's probably in bed. But then again, he's one of those protective fathers. He'll be awake."
"Okay, well, let's go. It's late. I want you three in bed by the time I get back."
"Fine." They all whined.
"Come on Whitney." Whitney got her c.d. out of the player, put on her street shoes, picked up her bag and followed Diana. On the way by the boys, she waved and said, "See ya later."
"Bye." They called. They left the house and got into the van.
"So how'd it go? Did you dance at all?"
"Obviously they didn't want to dance. I spent practically the whole time trying to just stretch. That's as far as we got."
"I'll have to talk to them then. Can't be waisting time like that." Diana turned the radio on, and they sat quietly. They pulled into Whitney's driveway, and Diana turned to her. "Here's for your time these last two weeks. I know we didn't discuss payment, but if you need more, let me know." Whitney opened the white envelope with her name scrawled on the front.
"This is more than generous. Thank you so much."
"Thank you for your time and experience. I look forward to seeing you next week then."
"Definitely. See you next week." Whitney got out and said good-bye to Diana.
"Oh. Can I talk to your dad for a minute if he's available Whitney?"
"Uh, sure. I'll go get him." She went inside and foud him in the den watching some old movie. "Hey dad. Diana wants to talk to you if you're decent. She's outside."
"Okay. I'll be right back. Get ready for bed." He went outside and Whitney went to her room. After she was finished, she waited in the living room for her dad to return. He finally came in. Whitney couldn't tell by his expression if their talk was good or bad.
"What did she say dad?"
"She said that she was very pleased at how you handle your busy schedule. With your classes, practices and homework. She was impressed that you can do all that and still keep your grades up."
"Well yay. That would be good news then."
"Yes, good news. You have to go to bed now."
"That's the bad news. I knew it had to be coming sometime." Her dad gave her a stern look. "Just kidding! Fine. I'll go to bed now. 'Night dad."
"Good-night Whitney." She went back to her room and turned on the radio. She was asleep before the next song 'MMMBop' came on the radio.
