Chapter Eight
I ran upstairs and grabbed the cordless phone in case anyone should decide to call. My phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi. It's Jason."
"Jason..."
"Miller."
"Oh! That Jason! How'd you get my number?"
"From Sasha."
"Sahsa gave it to you?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, umm, right now, I'm kind of in the middle of a crisis, so can you call back in say, oh, an hour an a half?"
"Sure."
"Thanks. I'll talk to you later, then, Jason."
"Yeah. Bye Maranda."
"Bye." I hung up just as Cassie came in.
"Who was that?"
"Some kid named Jason."
"Oh."
"You guys sit here and eat while I call and talk to my agent."
"Kay." They turned their attention to the cartoon on some random cable channel. I dialed Julie's number.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Julie?"
"Yeah?"
"It's Maranda."
"Oh! Hi!"
"I got your letter today."
"You did!"
"Yeah. So who's it for?"
"You mean the company?"
"Uh, yeah. Am I calling at a bad time for you?"
"No, no, it's okay. The company is the GAP."
"GAP wants me to model for them?!"
"Apparently. They called me this morning saying they need another new model, so I faxed them your picture, and they liked it. Like I said. These are going to be summer clothes right now. If they like you after this line, they'll keep you. I mean, they'll give you a longer contract. If you'll do it."
"Sure! I'd love to. When't the first session?"
"They want to meet you this weekend first. Can you make it?"
"Sure. I can free up any time."
"Fine. I'll email them with your message. Then I'll call you with the date and time."
"Thanks Julie."
"Sure. I'll talk to you later then."
"I guess so."
"Bye Maranda."
"Bye Julie." I hung up. "So what are we watching guys?"
"Rugrats!" Alex shouted.
"Lets watch MTV." Cassie suggested, and looked at me. We exchanged smiles.
