Chapter Nine
Cassie got up and went over to my patio doors. I had sliding glass doors that had a walk out to the back yard. I had big vertical blinds and curtains over them. Cassie pushed them aside and looked out.
"Wow Maranda, you should see this. From the looks of it, mom may not be coming home tonight."
"She'll call. If she can't, we all'll have to get up earlier and feed the horses. If by chance they happen to cancel school, we'll still have to wake up earlier to feed the horses." Cassie sat back down on my bed.
"Can we have a slumber party down here?"
"I suppose. What does it look like outside?"
"Everything's covered in an inch or two of ice. We could put on our ice skates and skate to the neighbors if we wanted to."
"Man. I guess it's a good thing we got dinner and the horses in already."
"Yeah. It is. They'd probably be frozen in by now if we hadn't." The phone from the kitchen rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi Maranda."
"Mom!"
"Yeah. I have Rory with me. We'll be staying at a hotel tonight. They're predicting this storm to last till late tomorrow morning for Louisville. Since I won't be able to be there tomorrow morning, you don't have to go to school if they don't cancel it. But don't sleep in. You have to feed the horses. How are they? Did you get them inside?"
"Yeah. Cass and i got them in when the hail started to come."
"Good. Were you able to get dinner?"
"Yes. We ordered in pizza."
"What're you doing right now?"
"We're all in my room watching t.v. and finishing off dinner. We're going to have a slumber party in my room tonight."
"Oh really."
"Uh-hu. I'm kind of looking forward to it. Today, when I got the mail from Joe, I found a letter from Julie."
"Julie...Julie..."
"Davis."
"Julie Davis?"
"My agent?"
"Oh yeah! What did she have to say?" I told her what I had just found out.
"I can't wait for my father to see me in a commercial or something. I wonder what he'd say."
"I don't know hun, I don't know. Well, Rory'd hungry, so I should go and feed him. I'll talk to you tomorrow, kay?"
"Sure."
"Say good night to everyone and tell them I love them. Night Maranda."
"Night mom. I love you."
"Love you too. Bye sweetie."
"Bye."
