Chapter Eleven
When I woke up, all I knew was that I was in pain. When had I forgot to stop breathing? I drifted in and out of conciousness. The next thing I remember was that I had a cast around my ribs and a brace around my left knee and left arm, which both were also in a cast. I was on a table being pushed out of the e.r. and down a long white corridor with tons of bright lights that gave me a huge headache. I drifted out again. When I came back, I was in a regular hospital room. I looked around the room and found the remote for the t.v. and decided to watch Home Improvement. The door opened a crack, and I recognized Walker immediately. I smiled and waved with my free hand.
"Are you ready for visitors?" He asked me.
"I'm sure I look like crap, but I guess so." He smiled and turned around. Then Zac, Tay and Ike, loaded with flowers and a teddy bear surrounded me. Now I could be myself because my grandma wasn't around.
"Hi guys! You're all here!"
"We brought you these." Zac placed the teddy bear on my stomach.
"Oh how adorable! He's so cute!" Ike and Tay each set a big vase of flowers on the table next to me. "The flowers are beautiful. You didn't have to get me these things. I dragged you into this mess. I don't deserve these."
"We got you these because we care."
"You guys are so nice. Nobody's ever brought flowers or a teddy bear before." I was ready to cry.
"So what are your plans for when you get out of here? They said it'd be at least five days." Walker told me.
"I don't know. Honestly, I didn't want to think about it. But now that you asked, I guess I have no choice but to go back and continue working, and hope that a thing like this doesn't happen again."
"Well, I have an option for you to think about." Walker announced. I looked at him, waiting for him to continue. "We leave in three days." My face fell. "But, we were thinking, that you can't go back there. Ever again."
"But wha-"
"We were thinking, that when we fly home, this hospital could fly you to the Tulsa hospital." My eyes grew wide and they all smiled. "And when you're ready to get out of the hospital, you'll live with us. How does that sound?" My jaw dropped. I must have tried to jump up, because I had a sudden flash of searing pain in my chest, and remembered why I was here.
"Well?" Zac persisted.
"I- I'd love to. I'm speechless." I smiled, remembering the song.
"Great. I'll call Diana then and tell her the good news." Walker left the room in search of a pay phone.
"Welcome to the family. And you didn't even haveta marry Tay!" Zac joked. Tay gave his brother an elbow in the side and smiled innocently at me.
"When we go back tonight, we'll pack up all your stuff from your room so you can have it in Tulsa." Ike said.
"Thanks guys. I've never felt this way before. So wanted and invited. I think I'm gonna cry." I swiped a stray away with my right hand.
"Don't cry." Tay said softly.
"I can't help it. I've never been so happy in my life. Who knew it'd be Hanson that I'd ended up with!" The boys were almost crying too.
"Well, everything's set and ready to go. Diana will have the guest room ready for you when we arrive."
"You guys are so great." My dinner of yummy hospital food was wheeled in.
"We'll leave you to your dinner. We'll see you tomorrow Angelique." Walker said.
"And you'd better eat that." Tay added. "Good bye Angelique."
"Bye Tay. Bye Zac. Bye Ike. Bye Walker. Thank you so much."
"Bye Angelique." They chorused togeather. I watched them leave. I looked down at the food and almost threw up. 'No wonder everybody complains about the hospital food.' I thought to myself. I pushed it around and picked at it, making it look like I had actually eaten something. Yes, that old trick. A half an hour later, they took the tray away, checked up on me, leading me up with more pills. I finally drifted in and out of sleep.
