Chapter Thirteen
The next morning, the Hansons went into Seattle to film their video while I watched t.v., flipping through the channels, finally deciding on M.T.V. About five at night, they showed up, and, my sister.
"Kaitlin!"
"Oh my Angie. Look at you. What happened?"
"Hi Walker, Isaac, Tay, Zac."
"Hello, hi, hey, s'up?" I smiled. Kaitlin rushed to my side.
"Did Granny do this to you like Isaac said?" I looked at Ike.
"Yes. You didn't know?"
"No. I had no idea, until yesterday when Isaac told me. I didn't believe him."
"We'll be outside." Walker led the boys out of the room, leaving my sister and I alone.
"Yesterday. When you guys got back from town."
"Is Isaac right about the poison too?"
"I'm afaid so. She's tried to kill me twice. She threatened me that if I ever talked to the guests again, she'd kill me. And I don't doubt she could."
"I can't believe this. She's never done anything- ever- to me. Why you?"
"I don't know. But I'm not going back. I'm moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma in two days. You stay here and take care of "Granny". It seems she likes you more anyway. I'm sure she won't care I'm gone..."
"Of couse she will!"
"No Kaitlin, she won't. We live in seperate worlds. You live in the 'everything's fine and dandy world', and I live in the 'everything's hell world'. You're much better without me. Even we've never really known eachother. I have to leave. I'll finally have a family that cares for me. Wants me. Loves me."
"Well, if you feel that way so strongly, I'll have to let you go. You're right. We've never been close. I hope you do have a better life- from what yours now sounds like. Now what am I gonna tell Granny?"
"Tell her that I've run away and am never coming back. Watch closely for her reaction. Don't be surprised if she leaps out of her chair and does cartwheels."
"I doubt she'd do that. I'm sorry it had to come to this."
"Me too Kaitlin. Me too."
"I guess this good bye then."
"Yeah. I guess so."
"Well, good bye Angelique."
"Good bye Kaitlin." She got up and left the room. I blankly staired at the t.v. The Hansons sensed something had happened when Kaitlin came out with a solumn expression.
"I'll take a cab home. Thanks for driving me over here."
"Sure."
"Bye."
"Bye." They replied. They watched her walk away. As soon as she was out of sight, they came into my room and saw my face. They exchanged glances and approached my bed.
"Hey Angelique. How're you doing?" Tay asked.
"Oh. Hey. Hi. I didn't hear you guys come in. I'm fine." I smiled and continued watching t.v.
"We got your stuff packed up. You never told us that you were so dedicated."
"Yeah, well, you know how it is." I answered, without looking at them, so Tay tried again.
"Where did you get all that stuff from?"
"Here and there." I replied, eyes glued to the t.v.
"How long did it take to collect all that?"
"A while." Tay looked to his family for help.
"Hey Angelique. Where do you go to school?" Walker asked.
"Oak High." I sighed and cringed. Then I snapped out of my little mood. "I've been going there for a couple of years. The teachers are really nice." I said smiling at Walker. Everybody breathed a sigh of relief.
"Have any good friends you want us to bring in to say good bye to?" He offered.
"No. I've never had time. When I was in school, my grandma watched me like a hawk. I've missed the last couple of weeks though, because business at the hotel has picked up a lot."
"Oh. That's a shame."
"Yeah. But the up side of that is, is that I won't have to go through anything traumatizing- like parting with my best friend from sixth grade or something."
"I suppose."
"So what did she do to get back?"
"Took a cab." Walker said.
"Oh. so how did the first day of the video shooting go today?"
"Great." Tay jumped in. "We're right on schedule."
"We're half done." Zac said excitedly.
"Good job. I'll be looking forward to seeing on M.T.V." Everybody smiled.
