I slowly opened my door and looked for some sort of life. None. I crept out, quietly closed my door and snuck to the office. "She's just my grand daughter." That line came back to me. It hurt at first, but I got over it quickly. I was used to that sort of thing. I dissmissed the thought and began searching for the book. If I get cought, I'm in serious-
"Angelique! What in the hell do you think you're doing?" trouble. Busted. I looked up at my grandma who was standing in the doorway, glairing at me with her evil eyes. "You know damn well you don't belong in here!" She shouted. I stood up straight and looked at her, unblinking, tuning her out. She hates when I do that to her. "You get your sorry little ass down in that basement right now!" I looked at her, not reacting. "Did you hear me? Now!"
"Yes grandma." I said, showing no emotion. I walked towards her, and pushed my way by her. I walked like a zombie to the basement, not noticing Zac and Tay hiding around the corner. I flicked on the light and went downstairs. Since I come down here often, I had lots of stuff already put down here for the next time I got in trouble. I pulled out a folding chair from the closet, and a walkman with Middle of Nowhere in it. I sat and began listening, forgetting about the world, letting myself drift away with the music. If I hadn't put the chair here, I'd be sitting on the corner of the utility sink. I think that would get kind of uncomfortable after a while. All that was down here was the heating furnace, sink, and the closet. Nice huh. Considering the rest of the house, the people could have worked on the basement a little better. Something tapped me on my shoulder. I jumped and started to scream, but a hand was clamped over my mouth.
"Shhh. It's okay. We won't hurt you. I'll let go if you promise not to scream." Tay said softly. I nodded, and the hand was released. I looked up and over, into the faces of Tay and Zac.
"You guys shouldn't be down here. If she finds out, I'll be in such deep shit, I'll never get out." I wispered loudly. I stopped the c.d. and took off my headphones.
"We saw what happened upstairs." Zac said, his face full of worry.
"It's okay. I'm used to it. That's why I have this stuff down here- but I'm serious- you should leave. I'll be fine-" I stopped suddenly and listened to the footsteps upstairs. "She's in the kitchen, coming this way. If you leave now, you can get out without being cought."
"Okay. Bye." They wispered, and dashed up the stairs. I smiled to myself, for getting them to leave. I hated to do this to them- but the last time I got friendly with a client, my grandma poisoned my food and made me so sick, I coulsn't get out of bed for a month.
"Angelique! Get up here! I'd make you stay down there longer, but the poolhouse needs to be cleaned."
"Yes grandma." I answered automatically. I put everything away and gathered all the equipment I needed and went out to clean the pool.
