Chapter Three
"We've kind of sorta known eachother for four years, being in the same classes and all, but it turns out that the reason he never talked to me was because he was too shy. Finally his friends convinced him to talk to me. Oh- don't wait up for Brittney and I tomorrow or Thursday."
"Why?"
"Well, tomorrow, Lance has invited us to go out to lunch with him and his group. Then Thursday, just me- I'm going to lunch with Lance and his friends."
"Wow April." The teacher called for the class's attention. The stupid class dragged on for an hour. The bell rang, and Lance, Marie and I said good-bye and got through the last hour.
On the way to my bus, I slipped the note to Brittney, then hopped on my bus. When I got home, I did my homework, then crashed in front of the t.v. in my room. I was able to get through a set of commercials before the phone rang.
"Hello?"
"When did this happen?"
"Well hi to you too Brittney."
"Sorry. Hi. When did this happen?"
"Fourth hour. Oh. Lance wants us to go out to lunch with him and his group tomorrow."
"He does?"
"Yeah. he said he has someone that has a car, and we get to pick the restaurant."
"Wow. Tell me, how did you start talking?"
"We had a sub and we were supposed to be watching a movie. I was sittin' there, and a ball of paper hits me on the side of my face. I read it, and it was from Lance, asking me to go to the Spring Dance. I threw a note back saying that I'd go to the dance with him. Then he threw another note, saying he'd talk to me after class. We met and walked together to fifth hour, and he invited us to lunch."
"Wow. What a day. It took him four years to do that?"
"He told me that he was too shy to talk to me. He also told me that his friends told him to do this because they were getting tired of him talking about me all the time."
"That sounds flattering."
"Very. I'm excited."
"So am I."
"Have you practiced yet?" I immediately changed the subject.
"Not yet. We meet this afternoon at three."
"Oh. Are you going to write a song first? or play someone else's first."
"I think we'll play a song first, then while we do that, write a song."
"Sounds like fun."
"It will be. i'm looking forward to it." My sister came home from school.
"I have to go. Courtney's home."
"Kay. Talk to you in school tomorrow. Bye."
"Yeah. Bye." I hung up.
