"You know Zac, you should go see how Alandra's doing. Maybe she broke up with her boyfriend." Tay grinned at his younger brother.
"Yeah. Right. But I think I will go visit her anyway." He glanced at the clock. Eight sixteen. Zac walked into Alandra's house without even a knock. He bounded up the stairs by two. At the top, he heard loud shouts coming from the direction of Alandra's room. He heard a girl cry out in pain. Zac dashed to Alandra's room in time to see her recieve a blow hard enough across her face to be knocked down on the floor. Her parents wern't home, and Andre was two years older than Zac and was twice as big. But Zac was the only one who could help her. Zac ran into the room, helped Alandra up, supporting her under the arms, ducked when Andre swung, and pulled Alandra out of her room, closing the door behind them. He eased her down the stairs, out the door, across their property line, and into Zac's house.
"Taylor!" Zac called.
"What?!"
"Come here a sec!" Tay came down the stairs and saw Zac holding Alandra, who had her eyes closed and was limp against him.
"Lets move her to the couch." Taylor lifted her and carried her to their couch.
"Go get an ice pack." Tay instructed. Zac went off to the kitchen while Tay propped Alandra's head up on the cushions and layed a blanket over her. Zac returned with the pack.
"Put it on the side there." Zac showed his brother the place Alandra had recieved the last blow. Taylor carefully placed the pack on her face.
"She's pretty banged up."
"Yeah."
"Did you find her like this?" Tay and Zac sat on the floor with their backs against the couch.
"No. I walked in when Andre was smackin' her around."
"Is he still over there?"
"Could be. I didn't exactly ask him if he was going to stick around or not." Alandra stirred on the couch above them. Zac flipped around to face her on his knees.
"Zac. Hi. What're you doing here?"
"What am I doing here? I live here."
"No you don't. This is my house." Tay snorted.
"Alandra, you're at my house."
"Do you think that maybe she got a knock in the head?" Tay asked.
"Maybe. Hey. Alandra. Does your head hurt?"
"No." She said stubbornly. Tay raised his eyebrows.
"Let me ask you this. Does anything hurt?" Zac looked at Alandra. She hesitated.
"No."
"Now I know that's bull. Maybe we should take her in, for a check-up, at least." Zac suggested.
"No. I'm not going to no stupid hospital." The blanket was thrown off, discarded on the floor. Alandra swung her legs over the edge of the couch and stood up. She headed towards the front door. Zac jumped up and grabbed her good arm.
"Alandra, he could still be over there-"
"I don't care. Then I'll kick him out." She shook Zac's grasp and continued to the door. Zac gave his brother a pleading look. Tay jumped up, cought up to Alandra, bent down and lifted her up off her feet, locked the door, and brought her back to the couch.
"Alandra, you should stay here until he's gone."
