You Never Know
Chapter One
"And then he told me that he wanted to-"
"Hey Maiandra."
"Oh. Hey Taylor." Maiandra turned away from Travis towards her open locker and put her back to her boyfriend.
"I'll talk to you later, kay Mai?"
"Sure Travis. Later." With that, he left the two alone.
"What'd he want?" Taylor asked.
"To talk. We're friends, Taylor."
"Sure you're not more than that?" Maiandra turned around and looked him hin his blue eyes.
"I'm positive. Stop worrying, Tay. I'm not cheating on you." She said gently. "Even if the rumors say I am, I'm not. That's so mean. Cheating on people. I wouldn't want you cheating on me, so I'm not going to cheat on you. It's only fair." She brought her left hand up and brushed a stray wisp oh his hair out of his eyes.
"All right. It's just that you're with Travis all the time. Even more than me."
"What are you doing tonight?"
"My brothers and I have a meeting with Chris at seven in Oklahoma City."
"See?" She gave him a sad face. "You never have time for me anymore." He studied her face for a minute.
"You're right. What are you doing after school?"
"I was going to go to Perkins with Travis-" Taylor's expression fell. "But I can reschedule."
"Good." He smiled. "I want to take you out before I have to go to the meeting."
"Really?"
"Really." The two-minute warning bell rang. "Right after school, front doors. We can take my car and go to whichever restaurant you want to, besides for Perkins."
"Okay."
"I gotta go. I'm not lucky enough to have my locker right next to my fifth hour class." He smiled and gave Maiandra a hug. "See you later."
"Yeah. See you later." She smiled in return. He left her for his class. Maiandra finished her business at her locker, closed and locked it, and left for her class.
