Chapter Nineteen

"Yeah. Do you, ah, want to practice so it won't be weird for us if we have to?"
"Practice what? Dancing? Kissing?" I raised my eyebrows in question.
"Kissing. I think I can manage the dancing part."
"Oh. Okay. How do you want to do it?" He pulled his chair around to the front of the table and motioned for me to do the same, so I brought my chair over to sit in front of him. We closed our eyes. Tay placed his lips on mine. We sat there, awkward for a second, trying to decide what to do next. After a few more seconds of stalling, I pulled away.
"Lets try that again. I'll lead." Tay said. We kissed again. A minute later, Tay broke away. At first we didn't know what to say.
"Maybe we should go back in." Tay suggested in a rush, getting up and climbing out of the tree house. I stood up and followed Tay back into the house.
"Where were you guys?" Diana asked us as we flew past her in the kitchen.
"Going over the final details of the charity party." Tay answered casually.
"Alright." Diana smiled. I went into the living room and sat on the couch. Mackie came up to me and asked, "Love? Will you come up and play Lego's with me?"
"Yeah!" We took off and ran upstairs. He turned into a room that had a bunk bed, and a wall with Lego's piled along it. We sat in front of a low table and began building things. Mackie crawled into my lap so I had to build my creations around him. We were making a big Lego man. While Mackie and I were playing, Tay stood in the doorway and watched them.
"Tay, Tay! Wake up!" Ike whispered softly, so Love wouldn't hear them. "What are you thinking so hard about?" Tay turned to Ike and pulled him into the next room.
"Kissing Love." He told his brother absently, referring to what had just happened.
"Whoa, Tay."
"Remember the party on Tuesday? Well, I took Love up to our tree house and asked if we'd have to kiss in front of the people. She didn't know for sure, but it's leaning more towards yes than no. So I suggested we practice so we don't look like idiots in front of everybody. I kissed her once, and I can't stop thinking about it. Her." Tay confessed under his breath.
"Holy Cow!" Ike exclaimed. "Tay, man, you got problems."
"I know!! My heart says go out with her. But my mind says stay focused on your music only. I don't know what to do Ike! Please help me!"

Back in the room, I too, let my mind wander back to the events of the last fifteen minutes.
"Love! Wake up!" Mackie tapped my face.
"Sorry Mackie, it's been a long day."
"Dinner!" Diana called from downstairs. Mackie leaped off my lap, while I slowly stood up, a little stiff from sitting on the floor. I met Tay and Isaac in the hallway.
"Hi guys!" I said brightly, pushing my thoughts to the back of my head.
"Hi Love." They both answered. We went down the stairs and sat in our spots. I sat between my mom and Jessie. Tay was coincidentally placed across from me. All through dinner I could feel his eyes on me, only occasionally looking away to answer a question. I tried not to look at him. I stayed active in the conversation, carefully avoiding his eyes. After dinner, my mom, dad and I said good bye. I told everyone that I'd see them tomorrow.
