Chapter Twenty Three
Four o'clock, the rest of the family poured into the house. I left Mackie watching the movie and went to say hi to Diana. We said good bye, then I went home and had dinner with my parents. They were going out tonight. Looks like we'll have the house to ourselves. Joy. At six, they called, asking when I was ready to have them over.
"How 'bout in an hour? My parents are going out tonight, so, actually five minutes after seven, or when ever you see them pull out of the garage. They won't be back until maybe midnight. That should give us plenty of time, won't it?"
"Yeah." Tay said. "That should be fine. Be over in a while."
"Okay." I ran up to my room, took a quick shower to kill some time, and changed into a skirt that was a couple inches short of the knees. And when you spun around, it went out in a flat circle. I put on a tight silk button down short sleeved shirt. Hair in a low pony tail. I slid the scrunchie down past my shoulders.
"Love!" My mom called.
"Coming!" I stopped in front of my parents.
"We're leaving now. We'll be back around midnight." My dad told me.
"Kay."
"Have fun while we're gone." My mom said. She had no idea. She kissed my head and left for the car.
"I will." Finally, they went to the garage. I ran upstairs and checked my room for any missed or overlooked messes. The garage door closed, and I waited for the doorbell to ring. About five seconds later, as predicted, the bell rang. I ran down the steps to answer the front door. I passed by a full-lenght mirror and stopped to check myself again. Perfect. I continued on to the door, unlocked and opened it.
"Hi Tay! Hi Isaac!" I let them in.
"Hi Love." There was a silence.
"Well, lets go up to my room and get down to business." I turned and headed for my room. Isaac and Tay fell in step behind me.
"Hot." Tay whispered to Isaac. He nodded. Finally at the top, we went into my room and closed the door. Isaac pulled the curtains closed. I sat at the head of my bed. I looked at the two expectantly.
"To make this go smoother Love, think of this as if it were a role you had in a play." Isaac started off.
"I can handle that."
"Okay, Tay." Isaac grabbed Tay's shoulders and directed him over to my bed and sat him down facing me, a few feet away.
"Well, actually, you'll probably have to kiss standing up, but we'll get to that later. Alrighty?"
"Fine." I answered. Tay remained silent, and only nodded, stairing at me.
"So, Tay, Love, turn and face me like you'd be sitting in chairs if you had to kiss during dinner." We both turned towards him and sat like he wanted us to.
"Now, slide closer togeather. You're not gonna be that far apart. I know that for sure." We slid together until our arms almost toutched.
"Turn towards eachother as if you were going to kiss." We did as Isaac said, and looked into eachother's eyes.
"Kiss." Isaac directed. Tay took my hands in his and slid closer. "Tay, you lead." He nodded, and turned his attention to me.
"Go on, kiss her." Tay looked at Isaac, then back at me. "This is a role Tay. Just do it." Isaac was getting impatient with his brother's slow responses.
"The people aren't gonna wait this long. If you have any chance of winning, you can't just look at her. They're not giving out awards for the best look." Tay suddenly put his arms around me and pulled me against him and placed his lips forcefully on mine.
"That's it. Get going now. Go Tay." He incouraged. It took a while to get accustomed to this practice thing. After a few seconds, things started loosening up.
"Okay! Time out! That's enough for the first one." When Tay kept kissing me, Isaac called, "Hello! Stop! Hold on for a minute!" Tay tore his mouth off mine.
"Wow Tay! That was a steamy one! I could practically feel the heat all the way over here. I may need a fan."
"Okay Ike. Get to the point."
"You know, after seeing that, I think, your problem is not actually kissing, 'cause that looks like you have that down just fine. The problem is starting. You're too slow Tay. How 'bout we try something. I'll put on some music and you guys dance until I tap on something. When I tap, you have to kiss. Okay?"
"Yeah." We both agreed. Tay stood up while Isaac put in a c.d. and pressed play. Tay asked, "Can I have the pleasure of having this dance with you?" He bowed when he asked. I giggled.
"Yes you may." He held out a hand, and I gave him mine. The first one was a slow dance. Then next was a fast one, and Isaac gave no sign of tapping on anything. Halfway through the song, he banged the empty c.d. case on the table. Tay twirled me against him and smiled. This was deffinitely getting easier. When he was finished, he spun me out and we continued dancing. After that one was done, Isaac clapped. We decided to take a break.
"You're a great dancer Tay. Where'd you learn?"
"A couple lessons. You're really good yourself. Did you teach yourself?"
"Oh no. I've had classes and lessons. Plenty."
"Well, they paid off."
"Thanks." Isaac tapped again. It was getting easier by the minute.
"Okay. I think that's enough of this. Lets practice the dinner kissing part. Love, can you fix us a snack to practice with?" Tay and Isaac looked at me.
"Yeah, fine. Common." We got to the kitchen. "How big of a snack do you want? We have leftovers, ice cream, popcorn..." I went around the kitchen, opening cupboard after cupboard. "Plates, glasses..." They laughed. I looked over my shoulder at them and smiled. "Cereal and canned stuff. We can have anything." I turned to them and leaned back against the sink.
"How about a bowl of cereal. Do you guys want to eat that?"
"Sure." We agreed. I brought out everything we'd needed.
"Cocoa Puffs, Corn Pops, Raisin Bran and Frosted Flakes." I chose the Cocoa Puffs.
"I guess I'll have Cocoa Puffs." Tay decided.
"Cool. That's what I'm having." I brought everything over.
"Now sit how you would have to sit at dinner." They both looked at me.
"It's a long table like this one. We'll be sitting next to eachother here." I layed my hand on a chair about three chairs length from the head of the table. "The boss will sit at the head, his wife, boy and his date will be in that order on the other side. My dad will sit in the first chair on this side. Then it'll be my mom, me, and then my date." I smiled at Tay. "We sit in order of positions in the work place." I told them. I brought over extra chairs so they would know what I was talking about. We sat in our seats. "We'll be about as close as this too. I'll be across from the boss's son's date. You'll be across the table from the next employee." Isaac made himself comfortable in the boss's chair. We got our cereal ready.
"How early will they start judging?" Isaac asked, wondering when he got to make us kiss with our mouths full of Cocoa Puffs.
"As soon as everybody's there."
"Okey- dokey. Start Eating." Tay and I exchanged a look and took a bite. I stood up suddenly.
"I forgot something. What do you guys want to drink?"
"What do you have?" Isaac asked as I went to the fridge.
"Mineral water, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Rootbeer and Slice. I'm having a Coke." I informed them.
"I'll have a bottle of water."
"Isaac?"
"Um, I'll have a Slice." I returned with the beverages.
"Now we can start."
