Chapter Thirty Six

We went to the pound first.
"Oh! Look at this one mom! It's so cute!" I was looking at a half dalmation and germain shepherd. It was light brown with black spots, and brown eyes. It's feet were black and when it stood up, it's head came to my waist. "I like this one. It's cool. Different. Unique."
"Are you sure you like this one Love?" My dad layed a hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah- unless it has any mental problems or something."
"Hi. Can I help you with something?" A lady asked me.
"Uh, yeah. Is there anything wrong with this dog?"
"No. It's perfectly fine. Really strong and playful."
"Is it a girl or boy?"
"A girl."
"Perfect. I'll take her."
"Great."
"Does she have any training?"
"All I know is that she doesn't relieve herself in the house."
"Yeah! She's definitely coming with me."
"Do you have a collar, leash, food and bowls?"
"I'll get some for you. Be right back." She returned with a collar and leash, went inside the cage, collared her and led her out with the leash, and handed her to me. I bent down and petter her.
"You're such a pretty girl. What shall we call you? We'll figure it out later. Lets get you out of here." We paid for her and her stuff, then climb into the car. The dog and I sit in the back. We went through a drive through, but saved it until we got home. When we got there, I set her bowls in the kitchen next to the entryway. I put water in one, and her food in another. We all sat down to eat.
"What are you going to call her Love?" My mom asked.
"I don't know. Maybe Zorena."
"That could be good." My dad nodded.
"I like that. I guess it will be Zorena. It's a different name, but she's a different dog." I explained to them. They both liked the name. My parents told me about their day. That took up all of dinner. Afterwards, I went upstairs to get ready to take Zorena out and begin training in the park. I sat down on my bed and was putting on my tennis shoes when the phone rang.
"Love! It's for you!" My mom called up the stairs. I reached over and picked up my cordless.
"Hello?" My mom hung up.
"Hi Love, it's Tay."
"Hi Tay. I was just getting ready to take Zorena on a walk to the park."
"You got a dog?!"
"Yeah. She's great. So far."
"What is she?"
"Half Dalmation and half German Shepherd."
"How big is she?"
"Her head comes up to my waist."
"Wow. Big. When are you leaving?"
"'Bout five minutes."
"Can I come with?"
"Sure."
"I'll meet you out there then."
"Okay." We hung up and I ran downstairs. "Zorina! Mom, dad, I'm taking Zorena to the park. I'll be back in a while."
"Have fun sweetie." My mom waved good bye.
"Zorena!" I called again. "Go out for a walk?" She came out from the kitchen. I hooked the leash on her and went outside. Tay ran over to me.
"So this is Zorena, huh?"
"Yeah. Zorena, sit." She stood still. "Looks like we got work to do, huh girl. Ready to go Tay?"
"Yeah." We headed towards the park.
"She walks pretty good. Doesn't pull. Good girl Zorena." We came to a street corner. "Zorena, sit." I said firmly. She didn't. Just stood and looked around, panting lightly. I put my hand on her haunches and pressed down firmly. "Zorena, sit." I pressed until she sat down. "Good girl." We waited till the cars cleared then began to walk again. "I'm gonna train her so that automatically she'll sit at the corners before we cross a street." We got to the park. "Zorena, sit. You are going to sit you know." I pressed on her haunches again. "Sit." She finally sat. "Good girl." I patted her head. "Want to help me teach her some tricks Tay?"
"Sure."
"You're quiet today. Something bothering you?"
"Oh, no. Besides for the fact that we're leaving for Asia next week, nu-uh."
"Are you worried about the trip? How long will you be gone?"
"Well, this is a big one. Our last concert before our official tour. We'll be gone for three days."
"Are you just nervous for the tour?"
"A little bit, 'cause now we have to compete with these *NSync guys."
"You'll do fine."
"You think so?"
"I know so."
"If you say so."
