Chapter Thirty Nine
When we went in the front door, nobody was arround.
"Where is everybody?" I asked the brothers.
"Either in the bathroom or cleaning their rooms. It's mom's 'big clean' day." Isaac explained.
"Come on Love." Zac took my hand and led me up to their room. "Mackie, go help mom and dad." Zac ushered his little brother into another room and came back. "Now where's Tay?"
"I bet he's in the bathroom. Hold on a sec." Isaac headed towards the bathroom. The door was closed, so he knocked. "Tay?"
"What?"
"We're back. I have Zac. You can come help clean the room now."
"Hold on."
"Hurry up." Isaac came back. "Love, you can sit on my bed."
"Which one is it?"
"The top one. Climb up. Wait, I have a better idea." He bent down, picked me up, and dumped me on the top bunk.
"Thanks for the help." He nodded.
"Come on Tay!" Zac yelled. "You need to help too!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming." He appeared in the doorway and stopped short when he saw me sitting on Isaac's bed.
"Hi Tay!" I said brightly.
"Hi Love."
"What's the matter Tay?" I asked him.
"Nothing. I'm- or I was just a little surprised to find you sitting on Ike's bed, that's all."
"Well, Zac didn't want to come home to clean our room. He wanted to play with Zorena and stay at Love's house. So I suggested that Love comes over here to keep us company."
"That's briliant Ike, just brilliant."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ike said defensively.
"Whatever." Tay dismissed the subject.
"Maybe you guys can do something constructive instead of fighting- like help clean the room." Zac supplied.
"Fine." Tay said.
"Okay." Ike replied.
"You guys are so funny together." They turned and looked at me.
"Cleaning is not a happy time here." Zac said seriously. I had to pretent to rub my nose to cover up my grin.
"Now lets get this done and over with." Isaac inturrupted. They turn on the radio and began their chore, occasionally stopping to talk to me or adjust the volume on the radio. Their conversations started out slow, buth they talked about everything from the upcoming tour to their homework to Zorena who was sitting in a corner watching the activity.
An hour later, the final items were placed back in their spots and the floor was swept. Finally they were done. They looked around and observed their clean room.
"Good job guys. You're done already. See, it wasn't too bad once you got started. It looks pretty good." Zorena barked in a agreement. She went around to each of the boys and nosed them for pets. She layed down and rolled over, exposing her belly, hoping the boys would scratch it. They laughed at her, then bent down to pet her. When they were done petting her, she got up and licked their hands. She ran to the door of the room, looked at me and wagged her tail. "I think someone needs to go outside." I said, looking at Zorena. She barked and spun around in circles. "I'd better go and take her for a walk. You guys can come if you want to."
"Sure, okay, fine." They all answered. We went downstairs, put our shoes on and left for the park.
On our way there, we ran into Andy. I stepped behind the three boys.
"Hi Love." Everybody stopped walking. Tay turned to me.
"Do you know him?"
"Unfortunately, yet." I made sure I was talking to Tay and not Andy.
"Love, why don't you introduce me to your boys here." Andy said, looking straight at me. I shook my head no and bent down to pet Zorena. "Well, anyway, I'm Andy."
"I'm T-" I smacked Tay. I gave him an icy glare and shook my head again.
"Don't talk to him. Lets go." I headed the other way, but they didn't come. I spun around. Isaac, Tay and Zac were looking at me with bewildered looks on their faces. Andy's had a cold, mean smile. I looped Zorena's leash around my wrist and grabbed Tay and Isaac's hands and pulled them with me. "Come on Zac." He looked from us to Andy and back again. He finally decided to come with us. At the end of the block, I let go of them.
"What the heck was that Love?!" Tay asked me. I looked at him with pleading eyes.
"Can we go home? I'll tell you there." I looked down at Zorena.
"Yeah." Tay said softly.
When we got home, I let Zorena into my house.
"Lets go to the tree house." Zac suggested.
"Good idea Zac." I smiled at him. We crossed the yard and climbed up the tree. We all sat on the floor.
"What happened, between you and Andy?" Tay asked slowly.
"You remember yesterday Tay? We were teaching Zorena how to play fetch. You went home to practice. It began-" I looked at the boys who were looking at me and listening intently. I laughed a bit. I started again, after taking a deep breath. "It began after you went home Tay. My parents finally came home. During dinner, my dad got a call from his boss-" I smiled, remembering the charity ball,"saying that someone had broken into the office. They had set fire to something, and that set off all the sprinklers, ruining a lot of the computers. My dad had to go to his office to help with the mess, and my mom decided to go too. To help clean, I suppose. Anyway, once again I was by myself, so I decided to take Zorena out again. I put on my rollerblades and went to the park. I decided to sit and take a break for a minute, and this boy my age came up to me. He said he had been watching me for a while, and wanted to get to know me better. He asked me for my phone number so he could call me later. Me of course, eager to make new friends here, gave it to him. We got to talking a little bit, and he asked me what area I lived in. I told him the street we live on, and he started going off about how all those people lived over there. Of course, I asked who he was talking about, and he mentioned you, Tay."
"What did he say?"
"He said that he didn't know you personally, but he didn't like you because there was a girl he was really serious about, and when you bacame famous, she left him for you. Do you know her Tay? He also said that you didn't like her like that, so you didn't pay any attention to her. Sound familiar?" I looked at Tay.
"Well, there was a girl named Jessica that followed me around non-stop. But go on." I knew what part was coming up.
"Okay." I took another deep bretah. "So the boy called about an hour later, wanting to come over and talk some more. So since I had nothing better to do, I let him come over." I looked at the boys, watching me, waiting for me to continue my story. "We went to the den. He asked me tons of questions about me, and I answered them. I got up to go get a plate of cookies I had made. And when I came back, he was sprawled out on the couch. He wanted me to sit next to him. I wasn't so sure I wanted to do that, but then he said that he wouldn't hurt me, so I sat down. After a while, he wanted to see my room. What he said made it sound so innocent." I looked down at my hands.
"What did he say Love?" Isaac asked.
"He said that if I showed him my room, he could learn more about me without having to answer all his dumb questions. It sounded harmless enough." I paused and looked out the window for a few seconds. I turned my attention back to my hands. "So I led him upstairs to my room. While he checked out my stereo, I looked out the window facing your house. He turned me around and asked who's house that was. I told him that it was your house, and he started teasing you guys again, so I told him to stop. He grabbed my shoulders to kiss me as an apology. I told him to back up but his grip got a lot stronger and he only stepped closer. He tried to kiss me, but I tried to get away. After a few struggles, I finally got away from him and ran downstairs. He chased after, cought and knocked me down in the kitchen. To shorten this story up, lets just say that if my parents had walked in a second later, I would have been raped." I tried to smile, but unsuccessful.
"Who is this creep?" Zac asked.
"I don't know his last name, but if you know an Andy..."
"So what happened afterwards? Did he get cought? Is he in trouble?" Zac asked.
"Well, when I introduced him to my parents, we both had about three seconds to recover and look like nothing happened. I kicked him out immediately, saying that if I ever saw him near me again, I'd tell what he did to me. I still have bruises on my shoulders from him. And I also told him that I'd never speak to him again. He wanted to meet you guys, and I swore that he'd never meet you through me, which is why I did what I did when we had our little encounter in the park today. That was Andy."
"Oh! That's Andy!" They exclaimed.
"Yeah. That's why I was so eager to leave and you not to get friendly with him."
"Now I understand." Zac looked relieved to know what finally happened earlier that afternoon.
"Zac, Tay, Ike! Dinner!" Diana called. We headed down the tree.
"Buy guys. Thanks for listening." I waved.
"Don't worry Love, we'll go kick his butt for you." Zac offered, as they disappeared inside their house. When I got home, I found my parents frantically running through the house.
"Mom! Dad!" They stopped in their path and looked at me.
"Love! You're here! We were looking for you! You're usually here when we get home!"
"I was next door." Zorena sat down next to me.
"Love, we decided to take the night off to spend time with you. I know that a new place with no parents is hard." 'You have no idea.' I thought to myself, thinking about yesterday. "So we're going to go to a nice place for dinner, then we're gonna go to a movie. Is that okay?" Mom asked.
"Sure. I suppose. What's playing?"
"We'll have to check when we get there." My dad answered. We ended up eating at a fancy place called 'The Four Seasons', and watching a movie called 'Mousehunt', which was a silly movie and very predictable. We went home and went to bed afterward.
