Chapter Eight
On cue, Lucy said, "Daddy? Can you stay for my birfday party?" Marilynn smiled down at Lucy who was smiling back, then Marilynn looked at Zac. He turned pale- almost white. He jumped up and ran out of the room. "Mama, carry me." Marilynn picked up Lucy and held her.
"Say hi to your uncle Taylor and uncle Isaac."
"Hi unca Taylor, hi unca Isick." Taylor jumped up and ran after Zac. "Mama, where's daddy?" Lucy asked her.
"Just a minute sweetie. He'll be back" Marilynn turned to Isaac. "Right?"
"Ah..."

"Zac! Is that who I think it is?" Taylor asked, frantic.
"It has to be! This is a complete mistake. This can't be happening. I'm not supposed to be a father at sixteen! I haven't even got my liscence yet! How come I didn't see them before?" Zac was pacing the room.
"Maybe it's not really her." Taylor suggested, trying to calm him down.
"It can't be. She's the only one that we didn't use any protection. What'll mom and dad say when they find out?!"
"I don't know Zac. You knew this could have happened. It has to be Marilynn. That kid lookes to be about three or four. You did it three almost four years ago." Then Isaac came in.
"She's waiting." Zac looked at Taylor.
"I guess we'd better go back."
"Yup." They entered the room to find Lucy on the floor playing with a doll, and Marilynn kneeled next to her, back towards them. She turned around when she heard the door click shut.
"Luce." She whispered. Lucy looked up.
"Daddy!!" She got up and ran to Zac, clinging to his legs.
"Hey little lady." He picked her up. "What's your name?"
"Lucy."
"Pretty name." He looked at Marilynn. She smiled. A silence filled the room.
"Mommy, can I have dolly please?" Lucy asked, refering to the doll lying on the floor.
"Sure honey." She bent down, picked up the doll and handed it to Lucy. Zac studied her face.
"You're positive she's ours." Zac confirmed.
"Look at her Zac. She has your eyes, your lips and your shape face." Zac looked closely.
"Yeah. she's how old?"
"Three." Lucy supplied, holding up three fingers in front of him.
"Getting old."
"Uh-hu." Lucy agreed.
"Her fourth birthday is a week from today." Marilynn informed him.
"And that's what the question meant when she asked if I was going to be here for her party."
"That's it."
"Can I talk to my brothers for a minute?"
"Sure." They went into the next room, closing the door behind them.
