"Alright class, well done with the chosen movie scenes. I'm pleasantly suprised that everyone had this assignment ready by the deadline and were able to perform them today. As for until the next class, I want you all to memorize and rehearse your parts for the year end play. When we come back on Friday, we'll be having a dress rehearsal for our year end show on Saturday. Double check your costumes! I'll see you on Friday. Class dismissed." The class of twenty slowly made their way out of the room to flood the small blue hallway of the acting academy. "Bria, can I talk to you for a minute?" Mr. Dight called. Bria stopped, rolled her grass green eyes, then turned around and went to her teacher. "Bria, have you heard anything from Ms. Beck about that part you went up for?"
"Yeah. I have a call back tomorrow afternoon for a screen test." Bria smiled, feeling slightly awkward discussing her upcoming jobs with her acting coach.
"Congratulations! I bet you'll get the part. You're one of my best students." He smiled at her. Bria eyed him, expecting a pick up line to follow the compliment.
"Thanks Mr. Dight, but Twain is waiting for me." Trying to get away as quickly as she could without any more uneasyness, she started taking steps backwards towards the door. Her acting coach was about fifteen years older than her, making him by her rough guess, somewhere close to forty. He was balding slightly at his hairline, and a few gray hairs were popping up with his sandy blond hair by his temples, not giving him the "distinguished" look. He was about six foot two, and slightly overweight. He had been a "child star", with no work on the screen in twenty years. He had been unsuccessfully trying to trick/bait/bribe Bria into a date with him since she had in this school over two years ago, not even being one of his students. It crept up to the thin line between annoying and sexual harrassment.
"Okay Bria. I just wanted to wish you luck with the call back tomorrow. You did a great job with your roll today, and I look forward to seeing you on Friday." He smiled again, his teeth slightly off white from the cigarettes he snuck in between his classes.
"Right. See you on Friday." She quickly slipped out of the room, praying that she could get outside without any more complications. She was starting to dread coming to her acting class, but it was almost done, and she needed to finish it. She'd been putting it off as long as she could. Practically running to her 2006 Tahoe, she jumped in and locked the doors. Turning it on, she closed her eyes and forced herself to relax as the first verse of 'Dirrty' began filling the SUV. It always made her smile, hearing Taylor sing about dancing and sweating. She could only imagine. After her nerves had calmed, she put the SUV in reverse and made her way out of the parking lot and on her way home.
Bria unlocked her apartment door, and set her keys in a small pink clay pot on the end table inside her door.
"Lily? You home?" Bria called, looking for her roommate. Bria turned to the wall, and looked into the mirror on the wall above the little table that held her keys. Fixing her mid back length straight jet black hair, she saw Lily come out of her bedroom.
"Hey Bria. How was class?" Lily sat on the red love seat sized sofa in the middle of the room and looked at Bria.
"It was good. Mr. Dight was only a four today." Referring to the scale of creepiness of her teacher, she continued. "The scene went good, and I didn't miss a cue. I think I'll be ready for that audition tomorrow, finally."
"You'll get it for sure."
"Thanks for the confidence. I'm going out to meet with Twain in half an hour." She told Lily, crossing the small apartment to her room to change.
"Cool. Practice?"
"Something like that." Bria tossed a grin over her shoulder, then closed her door.
"Wow Bria, you look great."
"Thanks Twain." She didn't think her outfit was out of the ordinary. She didn't dress up for him. She was only in tight jeans and a green long sleeved tee shirt that matched her eyes. You didn't need anything more than that in an LA winter. "You look nice today." She smiled sweetly, her full glossy lips revealing perfect white teeth. He was just in a light sweater over a button down shirt and jeans, his brown hair long and swept to the side.
"Thanks. So are you ready for Saturday?"
"Yes. I'm anxious to get it over with so I can ditch Mr. Dight."
"Has he been bugging you more lately? With the end of class coming up?"
"Not more than usual. At least not today. I was suprised how low key he kept it."
"That's a good thing. So do you want to go to my place and rehearse?" He said with a sly smile.
"Sure. Sounds good."
