Chapter Seven

"Hey guys- and girl. Excuse my rudeness, but, who are you?" He asked me.
"I'm Mariah Hanson. Lisa's daughter."
"I didn't know she had a daughter."
"That's because she was- remember when Lisa told us not to go in that messy room downstairs?" Zac asked his dad.
"Yeah- you didn't go in there- did you?"
"I wanted to find some toys 'cause I was bored- and I found Mariah."
"In the room?"
"Yes. Locked up. No food, no light, nothing. That's when I got Tay- we went down and got her. Brought her in here and gave her all this food. Tay brushed and braided her hair, and a few minutes ago she met Ike."
"Were you really in there starving?"
"Look at her dad." Tay said.
"Starving?! This, today, was my first food in over three days. It's hard to tell from day and night in that room. It could have been longer. I've been in there since my mom and John got married."
"And you're still alive?"
"Guess so."
"I've gotta talk to John. This is unbelieveable. Does he know about you?"
"No. I don't think so."
"I'm also going to talk to Diana." He left us and went to the house.
"Want some more food?" Zac offered.
"No thanks. Any more and I'll explode."
"Has your mom always treated you like this?" Tay questioned, his expression worried.
"Yeah. You know- I don't even have any things of my own. John is he third husband."
"Really?!" Taey asked in shock.
"Yup. After my parents divorced, my mom would look for a house with one bedroom and two bathrooms- one in the basement. I've never had an actual bedroom. Never slept on a real bed- since I was moved from the crib at two."
"You've never slept in a big bed?!" Zac shreiked in disbelief.
"Never."
"Always on a cement floor." Tay said quietly.
"That's right." The boys were silent, trying to imagine what life would be like without a bed.
