Chapter Fourteen

"Yeah. So does Sam have front row seats and a backstage pass too?"
"Uh-hu."
"Amy?"
"Yup."
"How did you get them?"
"Brett works at the place where the concert is being held. They said they'd give them to him if he played security guard."
"Oh. And now that Brett may be missing, what's gonna happen? Will you have to give them back? I mean, if he got them in exchange for working, and he doesn't show..."
"Don't say that Trey! He will show. And if by some small, teeny tiny slight chance he doesn't, we'll have to find someone else over sixteen. Like eighteen or higher. Like Randy."
"Do you think your brother will go for that?"
"If he doesn't, he'll be dead." I growled.
"Whoa Maddy, are you really serious?"
"Yes, I'm that serious. It's not every day you can get front row seats and backstage passes to a Hanson concert." I sat down with the left over pizza slices from last night's dinner. Trey had some kind of sandwich concoction from the fridge. We sat down and ate. When we were done eating, I pulled out a deck of cards from a nearby drawer. We played cards for about half an hour. Our game was inturrupted by the phone ringing. I got up and answered it. "Hello? Oh, hi dad. You'll be home in a couple of hours? Okay, see you then. Mom too. Kay. love you, bye." I turned to Trey. "My parents will be home in a couple of hours."
"I heard." My phone rang upstairs. I looked at Trey.
"Amy." I ran upstairs and dove across my bed and answered it.
"Maddy?"
"Yeah? Hi Amy. What's going on?"
"He hasn't come back yet. My mom just called the police. They're going to search the route that he might'ev taken from Sam's house to home. I'll call you as soon as we get word. I have to get off the phone. Talk to you later. Bye." She hung up. Slowly I placed the phone back in it's cradle. I went downstairs and sat down in front of Trey. He tried to read the expression on my face.
"What's happening?"
"Brett hasn't gone home yet, so Amy's mom called the police and had them search what might have been his route home."
"I hope he just got sidetracked."
"Me too. Wanna up the stakes?"
"Sure. How 'bout looser kisses winner?"
"Fine with me Trey, but you always loose." We began another round of poker. Halfway through, my phone rang again. I ran back upstairs. "Hello?"
"Hi Maddy, it's me again."
"You don't sound right."
"The police found Brett."
