On October 15, 1998, at 9:15 a.m. CST, K-9 Oefje succumbed to cancer at age 10. He had been fighting the disease for a few months, but in the end, the strongest friend I've ever known had to give in to the pain and suffering.
Today, the world lost one of the finest law enforcement officers to ever walk a beat, and I lost my best friend and partner. Good bye Oefje, and God speed old friend.
During his career he found more than 2,100 pounds of narcotics, assisted in many arrests, kept me out of trouble more than a few times and listened to all my gripes and complaints without comment. I nick-named him Booger-bear because of his less than pleasant nature with anybody who came near me or HIS patrol car. He was always fond of standing up on his back legs and giving me hugs. He would actualy put his head to my chest and squeeze me with his front legs. I was with him untill the end holding his head in my arms as he was put to sleep by the vet. It was the hardest thing I've ever been through, but I know he is in a better place and is suffering no longer. Take care Booger-bear.
