Chapter 9 of Love, Pain, and Everything In Between
*One Week Later (January 31st)
As Colleen was practicing songs on her drum set, the phone extension in her room rang. "Hello?" she asked, dropping her drumsticks and picking up the reciever.
"Hey Colleen, guess what?!?!" Taylor's voice came over the line.
"Hi, Tay, what's up?" she asked.
"We're going to New York next week-February 4th through the 8th-to record something for VH1."
"Cool, what show?"
"Um.....Storytellers....it's new. Anyway, Zoe's too young to travel, so mom is staying at home with her, and the rest of the little kids are staying home, too. My dad is still recovering from his little motorcycle incident, so he has to stay home as well...."
"So it's just you 3?" Colleen asked.
"And Jason, our bodyguard."
"Oh, wow... hmmm, I'm seeing the headlines now... Tulsa Trio goes crazy in Big Apple...."
"Well, it's not like we haven't been there before..." Taylor replied, laughing. "But see, we already had a recording pass and plane ticket for dad...so we have one extra...and...."
"And...?" Colleen prompted him.
"And... we want you to come, be our special guest." Taylor said.
"Oh, wow, this is..." Colleen was totally speechless. "Wow, you really want me to come?"
"Of course!" he said. "You'd have your own room of course, and we'd be right next door. Jason would be somewhere near us, too."
"Wow, this is really cool.... I'd have to talk to my parents, of course, but I think they'll okay it." Colleen was shocked. She, Ike, Tay and Zac had become good friends, but it was still a big surprise to have them invite her along on a trip with them.
"Great! I have to go soon, do you want to talk to Ike and Zac?" Taylor asked.
"Sure, put 'em on!" Colleen talked to Ike and Zac for awhile, then hung up after talking to Taylor one last time. She ran downstairs to talk to her parents. "Mom?" she said, coming down the stairs.
"Yes?" her mom replied.
"That was Taylor on the phone." Colleen sat down in front of her mother and looked her full in the eyes.
"Oh, how've they been?" her mom asked.
"Good. Mom, listen. They invited me to go to New York with them February 4th-8th. They're recording a show for VH1. They have an extra recording pass and ticket because neither of their parents or younger siblings are coming." Colleen figured it was best to give her mother all the information at once. "But their bodyguard will be there with them. I really want to go, can I?"
Her mom stared at her for a few minutes before answering. "So that's next week, Wednesday-Sunday?"
"Yeah...." Colleen said hesitantly.
"I'll have to talk to dad about this... We'll have to give you an answer soon, I suppose?"
"Well, it's Saturday, so I guess I'd need it by Monday at the latest..... I'd have to pack and get homework assignments" Colleen bit her bottom lip, which she always did when she was nervous.
"Alright, I'll tell you soon. Now go finish practicing." her mom sighed.
*Later the same day.....*
Colleen heard her dad calling her. She poked her head out of her room and said, "yeah dad?"
"Come down here, please, we need to talk about this whole Hanson business." Colleen walked downstairs to join her parents in the living room.
"Alright, first we need to lay down a few rules. Don't go anywhere by yourself, always stay with the bodyguard or one of the brother. If you get lost, find an adult or policeman, don't ask just anyone. Keep an eye on your money AT ALL TIMES...."
"Wait, does this mean I can go?" Colleen interrupted her mom's listing of rules.
"Yes." her dad said. "As long as you do your homework, and follow all the rules that we say and any of the in New York."
"Alright!!!!" Colleen cheered. "Can I go call them now?"
"Yes, go ahead."
Colleen ran upstairs to her room and picked her phone. Then she realized she didn't know where Hanson was staying! Figuring she'd probably hear from them soon, she sat down and started thinking of what she was going to take with her. Of course her favorite clothes... and ones that made her look good! CD's, money.. Colleen wasn't sure that she'd need money. Would she be free to wander around od would they be at the VH1 recording studio most of the time? Oh well... She thought. At least I'll be with Tay...
*Monday*
Taylor hadn't called all weekend. Colleen had to tell him soon, or she ouwldn't get to go at all! School sucks. She thought bitterly. She couldn't tell anyone about her trip, partly cause she didn't know if she should, but mostly because she didn't want her friends to know. They had finally stopped talking about Hanson all together, and the boys' pranks were dying down, so she definitely didn't want to start that all up again. She wanted to yell "I am going to New York City with Hanson!!!!" but she couldn't because she was in school. And, worst of all, the school had no phones on which Taylor could call her. Colleen sighed and opened her writing notebook to the poem she's been working on for the last two months. It was close to being finished, but she hadn't found that right word yet, the one that would end it all. Colleen sighed again and closed the notebook, discouraged. Only two more days of school... She thought, slipping into a daydream. Then, onto New York City....and Taylor.. She jumped in her seat as the teacher entered the room. Her daydream would just have to wait.....
*That Night*
Colleen paced her room, waiting for Taylor to call. She had to tell him soon, so they could make plans about what flight she was on, where they would meet, what she should bring... Colleen's mind started thinking ahead of what it would be like with Hanson in New York, then what it would be like to leave them. I already like Taylor A LOT. She thought. And I'm going to like him even more after 5 whole days with him.... I already hate the thought of leaving New York.. and I'm even there yet!! The phone rang, Colleen picked it up. It was Taylor. "Tay, hi!" she said. "Guess what! I can go!"
