AN EXPLANATION OF THE TWENTY
CLAUSES
Clause 4.12 - INSPECTION & STATUS
General Comments
As stated previously, Clause 4.10
of ISO9001/9002 requires that you perform various test and
inspection tasks, as relevant tothe services or products that you
supply.
This Clause (4.12) requires that you identify the status of
inspected goods or services. There are probably only a few
different types of status that could apply :
- Not yet tested (i.e. awaiting testing or inspection)
- Tested and was OK (i.e. ready for the next stage in the
process)
- Tested and failed (see also Clause
4.13 - Control of Nonconforming Product)
- Being tested (e.g. in the case of items being
"soak-tested", etc)
- Awaiting despatch after final inspection
The status can be identified by any relevant, and reasonably
foolproof method. For example :
- items awaiting inspection may be placed on a shelf,
clearly labelled "AWAITING INSPECTION".
- items which have passed inspection may be labelled or
have a coloured sticker attached, etc.
The status may be shown by labels affixed to the items, or by
documentation which accompanies the items.
