Reader Beware Reader Beware Reader Beware
In surfing the net you will find that there are now web sites that advertise some really strange shamanistic beliefs. Beware, If anyone attempts to charge you a fee for teaching you what the Great Spirit gave in order to be given, their a phony. I have been learning since the age of 12 and I am still learning. NO ONE CAN TEACH YOU TO BE SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT MEANT TO BE!!! Nor can they teach you to be a spiritual leader or shaman overnight or even in a few years. If I offend anyone with this statement, GREAT! I am glad to bring to the surface what is real. These people belong on TV with the other psychics with the little line at the bottom of the screen "For entertainment purposes only". ...QT

Deep within us lies a primal instinct that is at the very core of the universe within each of us. Within that deep seeded core lies the knowledge of the Universe, of Mother Earth knowledge, of the skills of communication that connects all living creatures to one another. Through the ages, for thousands of years, groups of individuals have twisted and manipulated Mother Earth's teachings untill that which was, is no longer. Or is it? Actually those teachings still exist today for those who are willing to learn. There are the Australian Aboriginies, Native American Medicine People, and many others. No, reading books will not teach you these things. Books are a good way to find that core within and to prepare, but ultimately you will have to seek out that person(s) who can reach down inside of your spirit and touch that golden place and rebuild the ancient fires and emotions within. So what about these people who are charging thousands of dollars to "teach" what the Creator gave us that it be given? Yes their is a charge! It is called respect. Just as you would do in your church, you give something back in return for anything and everything that you receive. When we chop down a tree, we leave something in return. We ask the spirit for forgiveness before we kill a deer, and we only kill a deer to feed our families. We then leave something in return. Just as you leave an offering for the minister at church, you also leave an offering to the teacher, medicine person, or Shaman. Like many ministers, Shamen and other medicine people survive on those offerings. Their families too depend on such offerings. In the old days those who would seek out the services of these sacred people would leave them with tobacco, blankets, horses, food, skins, etc. These things are still used as gifts in toddays society, but lets face it, tobacco won't put food on the table and skins won't drive the kids to school or pay for their lunches, or even put shoes on their feet. It has long been known that the greater the gift the greater show of respect and honor, thus, the greater the gift from the Creator to the giver. Too often I see people go to a medicine person, ask for help or teaching, and receive a pack of cigarettes or a pouch of tobacco. Soon these people are having even greater problems than they started with in the beginning. To dishonor the shaman or the medicine person is to dishonor one's self and family as well as the Creator. Those gifts given to the shaman or the medicine person by the Creator, were given to help others. Never disrespect or dishonor those who share those gifts with you. Before going to see a shaman or medicine person, find out from others what his/her needs are, and give accordingly. Recently, my truck broke down and the mechanics told me she was just too old and had been repaired one time to many. She would never be the same again. She needed a new front end, engine, transmission, tires, and the cab was rusted out so bad that it was in dadnger of coming off the frame. After several weeks of being on foot and not being able to take my kids to school or go to the aide of those who needed me, one of the couples I have been teaching for nearly seven years bought me a truck. The truck needs work and I'll get it done a little at a time. It is also 22 years old, but its better than what I had, my kids are going to school, and if I drive with the Creator sitting beside me, she makes it to where I need to go to help others. Both of these people have the hearts and the abilities to be shamen. The Creator has seen into their hearts and their unselfish desires to honor and heal others, and has gifted them greatly. I honor them daily in my prayers.

So after all that, Now what? Well, the first thing I would recomend is that you read a few books just to get a better idea of what you really are getting into. Then I would suggest that you find a teacher that knows, lives, and practices the ways of our ancestors. Not of the ancestors many make up in their mind but those of thousands of years ago. As you learn, ask questions. If you feel that you are not on your path, then stop. If you feel that you are on your path, then make a commitment to yourself and to your teacher.
