~Chapter 8~

"What do you think is taking them so long?", Elaine asked.

Her, Taylor, and Zac were in the boys' hotel room. Elaine was pacing back and forth in front of Zac who was lying on his stomach ont the bed. Taylor was sitting in one of the chairs near the window. He was staring blankly out the window, occasionally gently shifting his position. He paid no attention to Zac or Elaine.

Zac shrugged. "Why, do you wanna go look?" he asked.

"No! Well, yes... but no...I mean.... I want to know what happened but..I don't know..ummm...well, you see..." Elaine stuttered.

"AH! You wanna know what happened to them but you don't want to go yourself! I see," Zac replied.

Elaine stopped pacing and sat down beside Zac on the bed. She held her head down in shame.

"I know that's selfish. It's just I don't know what I'd do if I found them......in the not so best of health," Elaine told him.

"We'll go together," Taylor exclaimed suddenly from his spot by the window.

"Huh?" Zac and Elaine said together.

"I mean it. Come on. No more stalling from either of you," Taylor replied, giving a slight grin and getting up from his chair. "If anyone has to do it, it should be all of us!"

"You're right. But under one condition," Elaine stated.

"Uh, okay," Taylor said slowly.

"Okay. You guys have to tell me what's going on in here," Elaine responded.

Zac and Taylor nodded to each other then to Elaine.

"Well, let's get going," Taylor said and started out the door.

"Wait! What are we going to do if we do find them dead?" Zac asked.

Elaine's knees started to give out. The thought of finding them dead was too much for her. Perhaps it wasn't just the thought but the fact that the word 'dead' was used.

"ZAC!" Taylor screamed in rage. "How could you say something like that?"

"I'm sorry! I was just asking a question. You know, preparing for the worst!" Zac shouted back.

"I can't do this. I can't be here. No way. I mean, he does have a point. What will we do? I can't find my best friend like that. And you, your own brother? I can't-I-no way-I ca," Elaine said, sinking to the ground. Her speech was cut off be a sudden flow of uncontrollable sobs and tears.

"Come on! Pull yourself together! We are NOT going to think like that! Do you understand? Do you UNDERSTAND?" Taylor proclaimed.

"Taylor! Cool it! Elaine can't go like this. I don't blame her either. She's falling apart, I'm falling apart, we're ALL falling apart! Admit it Tay, you can't take it either! Stop acting so tough and wake up! Isaac could be DEAD somewhere!" Zac shrieked.

"No, I'm okay. Everyone stop screaming at each other!" Elaine said choking back her tears.

Taylor and Zac looked to the floor. They knew the last thing they should be doing was screaming at each other. They rarely fought but when they did it usually occured because of the huge amounts of stress on them. This was past the stress point.

"Look. We do have to do this. You know it. Now come on. We have to..." Taylor said, his voice slightly trembling.

He walked down the hallway, Zac and Elaine proceeded down the hall on each others heals behind Taylor.

They approached the elevator. Taylor went to push the button, but his hand shook so greatly, it was an impossible task. Elaine grabbed his hand, and held it steady for him to enable him to touch the button just enough to activate it.

"Thanks," he told her nervously. She gave him a nervous smile.

The three walked into the elevator.

"Oh great! We might as well be looking for a needle in a hay stack!" Taylor said, looking at the floors.

Zac sighed. "Gotta start someone, right?" He pushed the button for the first floor. The elevator proceeded down. A sick feeling engulfed Elaine as the elevator came to a sudden, jerky stop.

"What the....." Taylor said quietly to himself, mashing on the buttons.

"Crap! We're stuck!" Zac proclaimed aloud.

"What?" Elaine said.

"Yeah, well, we are. Crap! How the hell we suppose to get out of here?" Taylor said, mashing the buttons then trying to pull the doors open.

"I don't know! How am I suppose to?" Elaine screamed.

"Oh yeah! Well you have been trouble since we met!" Taylor screamed back.

"Oh please! Don't even start with me," Elaine told him, glaring.

The doors to the elevator opened.

"What in the...."Taylor whispered.

"While you two were fighting I hit the most amazin button in the world. It said 'door open' on it! And the doors opened when I pushed it! Imagine that?" Zac said sarcastically.

"I don't wanna go. Leave me in here. I'll wait," Elaine told them. She was beginning to feel faint.

"No! We are not leaving you. We're in this thing together," Taylor stated.

"Come on, Elaine. It'll be okay," Zac said, giving her a smile.

She took a deep breath. "All right. I'm okay. I'm coming."

They stepped out of the elevator. Taylor led once more, followed closely by Elaine and Zac.

They walked down the hall, passing a few doors.

"Umm.... Tay, that does is open," Elaine said as they passed a door.

"Huh?" Taylor replied.

"Door, opened," Zac repeated.

"Okay, well, then let's go in," Taylor said taking a deep breath.

"Yeah," Elaine agreed.

"Sure, lead the way!" Zac told them both.

Taylor took a few steps back and opened the door slightly more.
