This old school was an active school until 1942 when the U.S. Government
took over the land for Camp Gruber to be developed. It is now a Wildlife
Game Management area, where I do a lot of my explorings. There was a thriving
little community with a general store called "Box store". There were several
homes in the area. Some of the names of students listed on the school census
for Yellow Hammer during 1917-1919 were;

This old Greenleaf school was active until 1942, same as the one above.
It was located just north of where the old bridge across Greenleaf creek,
now is. The WPA built and completed the bridge, which still stands, in
1938. See it on my Exploring
pages. There was a post office at Greenleaf for several years and several
general stoves from time to time. The last store to be located near the
school was run by a man named, Jim Dawes. It was right across the road
on the East side. All that is left of the school now is the old cement
steps which are broken up and have been pushed back on the land. See the
corner of where the roads meet at the school site on my Exploring pages.
Some of the names of students listed on the school census that may
be in this picture, for Greenleaf during 1917-1918 were; Salmon children
(Mae, Lara, Anna, Emma and George) Tuxy Ballard's
children (Jack, Tom, Sam, Charley and Miza),

Refearn, Virgil Nutt, Charlie Collier,

This old Woodard school was active until 1942, same as above.
It has an interesting history. It was orignally a wooden building until
it burned down and they moved an old streetcar about a quarter of
a mile from where it was located to a site on Greenleaf road for school
to be. I have heard my daddy talk about the old school in a streetcar,
but never knew where is used to be until after daddy died. I found the
old orignal site first then later found out where the streetcar had been.
I had seen the area many times in my explorings but didn't know until much
later where it was. There is nothing there at all. The old orignal place
has the rock foundation still there but nothing where the streetcar used
to be. Some of the children known to be in this picture are; Warren
Ragsdale, John Henry Reynolds, Amy Davis, Carl or Warren Davis, Leon Holland,
George Hutching, Robert "Son" Carr, Tommy Hayworth, Viola Carr, Christine
Springer, Ruby Hutching, Carl Davis, Kathern Hutching, Paul C. Ragsdale,
Dorthy Davis. Some of the names on the 1936
school census; Benge children (Lucille and Theodore), Shirley Reynolds,
Myrtle Spurgeon, Spencer children (Jack, Lou, Dona and Sara), Davis children,
Monroe Reynolds. Teacher may be Nettie Sanders. Someone told me that a
husband and wife taught there, names, Floyd and Nettie Sanders.
