It was June 25th, 1997 and Kallee Johnson had been extremely bored ever since school had let out about a week ago. She sat around the house and watched t.v., listened to music, surfed the net, and read books. All of her good friends had gone to summer camp, but her mom, Cheryl, had said that she couldn’t afford to send Kallee to any of the camps her friends were going to. She was mad at first, but soon realized that this was how things were going to be now that her dad had died.
Kallee’s parents had been high school sweet hearts and were soon married after college. Kallee was born on July 15th, 1983 in Camden, New Jersey. Her parents decided to move to Silverbrook, NJ, (Northern New Jersey) so that they could raise their daughter in a safe environment. So Kallee had been living in Silverbrook for basically her whole life and she was now 13 years old. She had 2 best friends, Rachel and Quinn. Rachel was actually her cousin, but was more like a best friend. Quinn was Rachel and Kallee’s other best friend. All three had been really close ever since they were infants because their parents were all friends (Rachel’s mom was Cheryl’s sister). They all lived on the same street, too, with Kallee and Rachel’s houses next to each other and Quinn across the street from Rachel. Next to Kallee on the east was a white house with blue trim. It was three stories tall and Kallee wondered why no one ever bought the house and moved in.
Kallee got off of the couch in the den and turned off the t.v. She thought about what she had done for a second and wondered if she should turn the t.v. back on and wait for Hanson to come on MTV. She decided that she could wait to see Hanson until their video came on again. She jogged up the stairs taking two at a time hoping that the extra effort might help tone her leg muscles a little. Kallee walked into her room on the second floor and clicked on the computer. Windows 95 came on and she made her way into Netscape and on the net. As the Yahoo! screen came up, Kallee typed in "Hanson" and waited for the search results. As she waited, she went over to her nightstand to get some scrap paper to jot some things down that she found on the internet. Her mirror was on the wall next to her nightstand and she examined her appearance. Kallee was about 5 foot 4 inches tall, light brown, straight hair to her shoulders, hazel eyes, and she weighed somewhere between 115 and 120 pounds. Her shirt was an American Eagle t-shirt that she liked to lounge around in, and her shorts were Gap dark blue carpenter shorts. She loved those shorts!
Kallee found some paper and a pen and made her way back to the computer, which at this point had completely loaded the page with Hanson web sites. "Where should I go to first," wondered Kallee to herself. "Mom isn't home, so I can search for Hanson stuff for awhile!" exclaimed Kallee out loud. She opened a page called "Ultimate Hanson Links" and scrolled to the part of the page that said, "My Top Sites". The first site listed was Hanson On-Line. She clicked on the link and went into the page. She surfed around for awhile and printed out some more pictures to add to her continuously growing Hanson scrapbook. Just then, the phone rang next to her bed. Kallee got up and sat down on her bed and picked up the phone that had little pictures of Hanson taped all over it.
"Hello?" answered Kallee.
"Hi, it's mom. I just wanted to tell you that I think I might be selling that house next door!" said her mom excitedly, who was a real estate agent.
"Cool! To who?" asked Kallee.
"I think their name is Henson or something," said her mom nonchalantly, "But anyway, I wanted to know if you could go over and straighten up a bit and make sure it looks presentable, can you?"
"Yeah, I guess," answered Kallee, "But are we going shopping tonight or what? I need to get some more summer clothes and Hanson's new single!"
"If you want, but I think we should do that after dinner, okay?" asked her mom, "If I sell this house today, I'm taking them out to dinner like usual remember?"
"Okay, I'll go over there right now and straighten up, bye!" yelled Kallee, excited that she would get to go shopping and get some Hanson stuff!
She hung up the phone and walked over to her computer and switched it off. Then she bounded down the stairs and into the kitchen and grabbed the keys to the house next door. She opened the back door and walked over to the next house, the one with the blue trim and beautiful flowers everywhere.
