Reading Guide: Tracking Theme
As we read, remain alert for the following themes. Jot down brief descriptions of the examples, the page number, and any thoughts you have regarding the example.
Theme #1: Man's Inhumanity to Man
The mockingbird symbolizes harmless innocence. Several "mockingbirds" in the story become victims of man's inhumanity to man. Note examples in your reading.
Theme #2: Prejudice
Look for examples of racial, social, and sexual prejudice.
Theme #3: Courage
Look for examples of courage.
