Chapter 4-Art

Scarlet walked around the lobby, staring at the weird paintings on the walls. She loved ‘weird’ paintings, to her they were magnificent.

“Hey, Scarlet,” somebody said, breaking her trail of thoughts that were focused on the paintings. She looked around for the owner of the voice. It was Isaac.

“Hi…Isaac?” she asked, unsure of his name. He smiled at her.

“Yeah, it’s Isaac. But call me Ike,” he replied as he walked to her. There was silence between them, but Scarlet didn’t care, she just wanted to look at the paintings and did not feel the need to be answering questions thrown at her by Isaac. No such luck once again.

“So, you’re into art?” Isaac asked her.

“Yeah, I love it,” she said, not taking her eyes off one painting done by Sierra J. Capell.

“They’re beautiful aren’t they? It’s not like a painting, it’s like they're reality,” Isaac said, looking at the same painting.

Scarlet looked at him as she raised an eyebrow. Never before in her life had she seen a guy with such enthusiasm and interest in art.

“Yeah, it’s like we live in one world and then they have theirs. Both worlds are real, and then when they are put together, both havoc and harmony is produced,” she replied as her gaze shifted from Isaac to the same painting by Sierra J. Capell titled ‘Two Worlds Collide’. She had never really had a serious conversation about art with anybody before. There was another silence between them, this time a comforting silence for both were lost in their own worlds. Isaac in his fantasies about Scarlet and Scarlet lost in a world of art.

“Guys! How long does it take to look at a bunch of scribbles on canvas?” Zac shouted as he came bounding down the stairs, breaking the silence, “Dad wants us there now!”

“I’m coming, Zac!” Isaac shouted. He turned to Scarlet, “You wanna come? It’s just breakfast,”

Scarlet shook her head, “I’m fine. I’m not hungry,” Isaac gave her a disapproving look.

“Not hungry? Scarlet you didn’t even eat last night!” Isaac said, “Now come on, come join us,”

“Isaac, I said no!” Scarlet shouted before running off.

“That was smooth, Ike. Real smooth,” Zac said sarcastically. Isaac only shook his head and followed Zac into the restaurant, wondering what had gone wrong with Scarlet.

Scarlet ran as fast as she could. She did not know why she had blown up at Isaac like that, maybe it was of what had happened back in Arkansas. Tears stung the corners of her eyes and after a few moments they spilt over.

Taylor saw somebody running in his direction. He could just make out that it was Scarlet, Christopher’s god daughter. Taylor noticed that she had been crying. As much as he did not want to talk to her about her ‘girly’ problems, something inside of Taylor wanted him to go to her and console her, though he would rather have not and kept walking along, day dreaming about Sabrina. He quickened his pace and reached Scarlet. He placed one arm around her waist so she could no longer run.

“Scarlet…hey…what’s wrong?” he asked her. She looked up him with her puffy red eyes. She squirmed out of his grasp.

“Everything’s wrong,” she whispered before running to her room and slamming the door shut leaving Taylor quite confused.
