The history of D'ni is a very vague and unknown answer to any question. Althow it covers billions of billions of centuries, Surface Dwellers (Humans) dont have a clue as to what the history of the secret under ground relm known as d'ni is all about. There are many beliefs as to where the D'ni origionally came from but the most logical answer that I can give you is that like it says in Myst #0 the comic book the D'ni might have lived on another planet called (dare I say it) D'ni. But at this time in their world linking to and creating ages had not yet been created yet. But the people of D'ni were starving yes they needed food to survive but the ground of their planet was but of solid stone and their was no way to plant and grow food. But one day one man discovered the art of linking and he introduced it to the people althow the King of D'ni accepted his creation what the man wanted in return was to marry the Kings daughter. the King of coars denied him this and the man was banished from the kingdome, but the idea of linking to other worlds still existed and soon D'ni became a new world where its people would no longer starve. Billions of years passed and a new King was claimed for D'ni. Except now their was another threat to d'ni, not starvation but now an astroide that measured almost three times larger than D'ni it's self. D'ni was going to die. But the king introduced a new freedom to the people a new world for them all to go to and live, this world was called Earth. The King said that not only hiself but his father, his fathers father, and his fathers father Ect. had helped create this age and it was actiouly much bigger than a normal age. Instead of their being just one island this age consisted of many continents. As the distruction of D'ni grew closer more and more people went through to Earth untill their was nobody left on D'ni (or so it seamed). while everyone was on Earth they discovered that their were about thenty five people still on D'ni. The King went back with only a few minutes untill impace to get hiose people. These were people he didnt even know but he wanted to see to it that every last D'ni was on Earth. Well he got those people off of D'ni but in the process he was forced to give hi life for his people. Once every one was on Earth they discovered that it was much to hot to live on the surface, the D'ni were used to nice cool climates with very little heat. Soon they found shelter under ground. By turning all the extra rock that they dug up into Nara they soon were able to call their new home D'ni as well. It was then that they would no longer call the man who had saved their lives "King" he would now be known as "The Great King" and they never again appointed one man the ruler of all D'ni instead they set up a guild system with five people incharge of different things.
