Plans and Goals for 2001-2002

Current goals for 2001 are:

- Complete level 1 coaching certificate
- Hold a coaching "tour" to encourage more girls into bodyboarding
- Compete in ALL Australian Professional Womens Tour events and to become 2001 Australian Womens Professional tour champion
- Travel to Indonesia with some of the worlds best women bodyboarders for a surf/photo trip for either "Chick", "Surfgirl" or other bodyboard magazines
- Compete in ALL Queensland State rounds
- Compete in the Australian Championships, to be held at Ballina, NSW, in December
- Travel to Victoria and/or Tasmania for a surftrip and arrange photos and video with various photographers and videographers
- Travel to Hawaii for the 2001-02 winter season and to compete in the Pipeline Championships, either the Pipeline pro, and/or the AWB womens Pipe event.
- Promoting my sponsors at all contests, coaching events and promotional activities.

From the mind of Lauren Fletcher...

The above are some goals of what I want to achieve this year and into next year. More surftrips and phototrips will come up, I will also be co-organising a
women's coaching tour where the best girls in Australia (top 5 on the womens tour) will travel to various locations on the east coast, mainly larger towns
and tourist areas. This will hopefully encourage girls to get out into the water and to make them realise how fun bodyboarding is.
My competitive side is as strong as ever and I came extremely close to winning the Australian Professional tour back last year. I started in 5th place
after the first 2 events last year, so I want to change that this year. Last years narrow defeat has motivated me to come back this year even stronger, to train harder and to focus
totally on winning every event.
But contests aren't everything. I love bodyboarding and it is a part of my life, well I could actually say that it IS my life. I strive to keep a clean image and support women's bodyboarding
wherever and whenever I can as I realise that bodyboarding for women in Australia is tough and there isnt much support from surf companies, so I am going to do my best over the next
few years to change that. And maybe in a few years with the help of surf companies and sponsors we can have an Australian as a World Champion. We do have the talent here now, we
just need the support so we can show the world what we have!
If you're a grommet reading this, give the girls a chance. Give them some waves and encouragement so they keep coming back for more... If you're in the surfing industry and are looking
at sponsoring some girls, or a girl, do it! Women's bodyboarding is growing and most of the girls on the Australian tour are excellent ambassadors for the sport and it will give girls a chance
to try and get as good as the guys by the opportunity of travelling to surf different waves and locations.

So that's it!
Always have fun on your bodyboard!

Lauren.
